Prayer: Father, when You move, I want to move. When you stay, I choose to stay in Your presence. Amen.
Reading: Ezekiel 9 key: vs. 3 “Then the glory of the God of Israel went up from above the cheruv, where it had been, to the threshold of the House. He called to the man clothed in linen, who had the scribe’s inkhorn at his side.” TLV
Attention: A quick observation of verse 3 is that “the glory of God” moved, He “went up from the cheruv (or cheruvim, glory beings), and moved “to the threshold” which would be the door or entrance, “of the House (Temple). Where were the cheruv located? They were atop the Ark of the Covenant.
Prior to the building of the Temple, God’s presence with Israel was represented by the Ark of the Covenant. God’s presence was also manifest as a cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. The cloud was more than God’s presence. It also covered the Hebrew people and protected them from the harshness of dessert sun. The Fire also represented His presence and kept His people warm at night.
I have always thought of God meeting with Moses in the Tent of Meeting, but a quick review of Exodus 33:9 presents a different view. After Moses entered, the pillar of cloud descended, stood at the door, and He would speak with Moses.” The text does not say that Moses and God switched places. God descended after Moses had entered and the cloud stood at the entrance or threshold of the tent.
As New Testament followers, the Spirit of Adonai, His Holy Spirit, dwells in us as His Sanctuary. He speaks to us through His Word (the Bible), through His Spirit, and through others through whom His Spirit dwells. In the Old Testament, He stood outside the threshold of the Temple (yes, I know the exception of the Shekinah Glory) or Tent of Meeting. He also spoke to a prophet through a donkey (Numbers 22:21-35; 2 Peter 2:16). He has spoken through the Heavens to declare His glory (Psalms 19:2-3).
God has many sources of communicating with you and mankind. Are you listening for His voice? Are you seeking Him through only one source? He may be trying to speak to you in a way you are not expecting. Adonai met with Moses outside the camp and outside the Tent of Meeting. Yeshua told the woman at the well, “Yeshua tells her, “Woman, believe Me, an hour is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem.” We must worship Him in Spirit and Truth.
Action: I choose to meet Yeshua at the threshold of my heart.
Yield: I choose to yield to the Sovereignty of God.
Engage: I choose to engage with the Spirit of God at the threshold of my heart.
Relationship: I choose to live in relationship with Adonai.
Prayer: Father, thank You for reaching out to me. You first loved me, and I responded to Your love. Amen.
Memory Verse: Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Messiah died for us.” TLV
