Prayer: Father, You instituted observances for a purpose, both for the Hebrews and later for the advent of Yeshua’s death and resurrection. May I be mindful of Your purposes. Amen.
Reading: Ezekiel 45 key vs. 21-22 “In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month, you will have the Passover, a feast of seven days when matzah will be eaten. On that day the prince will prepare a bull as a sin offering for himself and for all the people of the land.”
Attention: Do you recall the back story of the Exodus of the Hebrew nation from out of Egypt? Moses was called of Adonai for the purpose of leading His people out of Egypt. One slight problem, the nation was being held in captivity. Pharoah said they could not just walk away. So, Adonai through the staff and hand of Moses, exacted a series of ten plagues to convince Pharoah to let My people go. It took all ten plagues, but by the tenth plague, Pharoah was compelled to release them. Understand, free labor is a difficult thing for a ruler to give up.
However, Adonai sent a death angel which was instructed to “Passover” the homes of those who had put “blood” on their door mantle. The death angel only touched the Egyptian households first born as they had not applied the blood Adonai required. I encourage you to read the Exodus account in Exodus 11-12.
Adonai through Ezekiel is not reinstituting the Feast of Passover to remind the current Hebrew nation of His mighty action on behalf of their forefathers.
Today as New Testament followers of Yeshua, we are commanded to observe the Lord’s table which He instituted before going to the cross. We find the account of His last supper with the apostles recorded by Matthew (26:26-28) and Luke (22:14-26). The apostle Paul gives us instructions about the observance of the Lord’s table in 1 Corinthians 11:23-26 with this admonition, “Do this in memory of Me.” We show our allegiance to Yeshua when we observe His table.
Action: I choose to embrace the observation of the Lord’s table, “in remembrance of Him.”
Yield: I choose to submit to the observance of the Lord’s table.
Engage: I choose to engage in the observance of the Lord’s table.
Relationship: I choose to live in holy, intimate, obedient relationship with Adonai.
Prayer: Father, thank You for the example of the Passover observance for the Hebrew nation and the significance of memorializing the demonstration of Your might. Also, thank You for Your Son, Yeshua who instituted His table for the purpose of remembering His death, burial, and resurrection power. Amen.
Memory Verse: I Corinthians 11:23-26 “For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you—that the Lord Yeshua, on the night He was betrayed, took matzah ; and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “This is My body, which is for you. Do this in memory of Me.” In the same way, He also took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in memory of Me.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.” TLV
