I Will Not Relent

Prayer: Father, give me new awareness of Your prophetic word through Amos today. Amen.

Reading: Amos 2 key: vs. 1-2 “Thus says Adonai: For three crimes of Moab even for four, I will not relent. For he burned the bones of Edom’s king to lime, So I will send fire upon Moab— it will devour Kerioth’s citadels. Moab will die in an uproar, with a shout of alarm and the sound of the shofar.” TLV

Attention: There is a key word which appears in Amos 2 that we must understand. God has declared His character, and he will not change His will, character, or mind.

My wife commented to me recently, that she had observed a toddler and his mother in the grocery store, testing each other’s resolve. The toddler was loud, obnoxious, and throwing a major league tantrum. He was even intentionally knocking items off the shelf to win his case for something he wanted. As parents, we have all witnessed this type of behavior, either from our own child or someone else’s. It is a test of wills. Will mom give in to the demands of a toddler or will the will of the toddler’s be tamed? Does no mean no? Will the mother relent and cave to the demand of her child?

When God repeats Himself as He does in Amos 2 (vs. 1,4, & 6), we may as well underline and bold His statement. God has declared to Moab, Judah, & Israel, “I will not relent.” Even as your behavior escalates and multiplies, I will not abandon My Word, My Law, My Declarations. I will fulfill what I say.

As New Testament followers of Yahweh, let us not fall into the self-deception of thinking that God will relent and be more tolerant of our sin than He was in the Old Testament. I understand that the grace and mercy of God is abundant. He has been most merciful and gracious to me. Yet, He has disciplined me, and He may be disciplining some of you right now. God is the best at behavior and lifestyle correction. He can take the toddler mentality right out of us. The goal of our correction is conformity to Yeshua. May we all be willing to have our minds, heart, and will, conformed to the image of Jesus.

Action: I choose to have my character transformed to the image of Yeshua.

Yield: I choose to live in conformity to Yeshua.

Engaged: I choose to live a lifestyle which is engaged with the Holy Spirit.

Relationship: I choose to live in relationship with Adonai, conformed to His image.

Prayer: Father, may we choose as followers of Yeshua, to conform to His image. May we not wrestle against You but give into the transformation process of being one with You. Amen.

Memory Verse: Colossians 3:9-10 “Do not lie to one another. After all, you have taken off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self that is being renewed in knowledge, according to the image of the One who created him.” TLV Music Video: Crowder—I Am https://youtu.be/cH_LLGiE0f0?si=zpvI5XDbZuaLh9Eg
