Write down the vision!

Prayer: Father, Your Spirit has taught me much in the twenty years of intentional journaling. Your Spirit shows me something new every day. How marvelous is Your Word! Amen.

Reading: Habakkuk 2 key: vs. 2-3 “Then Adonai answered me and said: “Write down the vision, make it plain on the tablets, so that the reader may run with it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time. It hastens to the end and will not fail. If it should be slow in coming, wait for it, For it will surely come—it will not delay.” TLV

Attention: The Bible Project video overview of Habakkuk mentioned that the prophet was told to take a chisel and write down on stone “the vision.” I am glad that we have progressed past old methods of journaling. I used to hand write my journals and then, I found that using a keyboard was faster. Fortunately, I took a typing class in High School, learning the hand and fingering positions for the keyboard. Plus, I could produce a cleaner document by using the editor feature.

All to say, journaling and documenting history or a vision is not a new thing. Communication via writing has been around for centuries and Adonai used writing via a prophet, priest, king, and emissary/apostle, to communicate His story. The bible is God’s narrative captured in writing, inspired by the Ruach. The bible is the most important book and collection of documents ever written. It is a unified account of Adonai’s story written by numerous men and written over centuries. There is not another book like it and never will be. It is unique and distinct, in and of its own.

It is the number one best selling book of all time. It is the most read and most quoted book, while being the most misunderstood book. People of all persuasions like to cherry pick the scriptures to support their agenda or image of God.

Adonai makes an important declaration to Habakkuk about “the vision.” It is “for an appointed time,” meaning, it is not for now but some time in the future. Man likes to speculate and project our interpretation upon God’s declarations. Suffice to say, Adonai tells Habakkuk and us, this vision is not only for an appointed time, “It hastens to the end and will not fail. If it should be slow in coming, wait for it, For it will surely come—it will not delay.” What God declares and purposes, He will fulfill! “It will not fail; it will surely come.”

This message is true for us and our culture. Do not allow our culture to create a narrative from God’s word. He has spoken and will speak for Himself.

Action: I choose to allow God to make the declarations and fulfill them.

Yield: I choose to submit to the authority and supremacy of God and His Word.

Engage: I choose to engage with the Word of God with the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Relationship: I choose to live in intimate holy relationship with Adonai.

Prayer: Father, I embrace the authority and power of the Your Word. Your Word is life to me. It directs and guides my path. It reveals Your character. It exposes my innermost thoughts and desires. I love You! I love Your Word. Amen.

Memory Verse: Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword—piercing right through to a separation of soul and spirit, joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” TLV
