The Apple of His Eye

Prayer: Father, your servant is ready to learn and observe the words of Your prophet. Thank You for writing the scriptures, Your holy word. Amen.

Reading: Zechariah 2 key: vs. 12 ““For thus says Adonai-Tzva’ot, He has sent me after glory to the nations that plundered you—because whoever touches you touches the apple of His eye—.” TLV

Attention: I remember watching episodes of Little House on the Prairie with my children when they were little. Students would give their teacher an apple as a sign of appreciation.

In times past, the gift of an apple by a student to the teacher was a tradition started in the 1700’s before governments began paying for the education of their people. Poor families in Denmark and Sweden gave their teachers baskets of apples or potatoes for teaching their children (source: internet).

The angels who visited Zechariah relayed important messages about Adonai’s protective nature, what I call providence. Nations who are posturing against Israel could learn an important lesson from the scriptures by reading Zechariah 2. Those who touch (come against, those who kill Hebrew people), are “touch(ing) the apple of His eye.”

The Holy Scriptures tell God’s (Adonai’s) story. People misquote or quote only what supports their narrative. Even quoting just a verse of scripture can give a reader inaccurate context. Here is an example. If I were to read Psalm 14b, “There is no God,” I might inaccurately proclaim, there is no God. What Psalm 14 says, “The fool said in his heart: “There is no God.” Proper context tells the reader, only a “fool” would say such a thing. It would be foolish of me to declare such an untruth.

Praise be to Adonai who has given us His recorded story. He is the Creator of all things. His Covenant people is Israel. He gave them their land. The Hebrew people are the Apple of His Eye. Any nation who comes against Israel is foolish. History supports this position and Adonai declares it. Any time we take a position against scripture, we are taking a position opposing the Sovereign.

Action: I choose to embrace the veracity of scripture and Adonai as Sovereign.

Yield: I choose to submit to the Sovereignty of Adonai.

Engage: I choose to engage with the Holy Spirit in declaring Adonai’s Sovereignty.

Relationship: I choose to live in holy, intimate, obedient relationship with Adonai.

Memory Verse: Zechariah 2; 12 ““For thus says Adonai-Tzva’ot, He has sent me after glory to the nations that plundered you—because whoever touches you touches the apple of His eye—.” TLV
