The accuser by name

Prayer: Father, I am listening, my heart is prepared, my eyes are open to Your declaration to Zechariah. Your words are for me today! Amen.

Reading: Zechariah 3 key: vs. 1-2 “Then he showed me Joshua the kohen gadol standing before the angel of Adonai and the satan, standing at his right hand to accuse him. Adonai said to the satan, ‘Adonai rebukes you, the satan. Indeed Adonai, who has chosen Jerusalem, rebukes you. Is not this man a brand plucked out of the fire?” TLV

Attention: In the movie The Usual Suspects a line is uttered which says, “The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he did not exist.” I submit to you that while the world and the devil try to convince us that he does not exist, the scriptures and Adonai declare that he does exist. He is not a fictional character, but one who is identified from the beginning of the scriptures (Genesis) to the last book, Revelation. We not only see the mention of “the satan” in the first couple verses of chapter 3, the satan is mentioned in the temptation of Yeshua in Luke 4; Mark 1:12, and Matthew 4. Three of the four gospel writers document the temptation of Yeshua following His water immersion by John.

If you are still not convinced of the reality of the satan, please read Isaiah 14:12-17; Job 1; Ezekiel 28:16; Ephesians 6:10-11; and Revelation 12:7-9. We have a very real adversary, and he seeks to destroy us. He seeks to lead the leaders of the nations to destruction. He cares not who he takes out and kills. We are all collateral damage to his end game.

However, just as in the book of Job, the satan is standing before Adonai in His courts and Adonai “rebukes him.” This scripture and all the rest establish Adonai’s Supremacy over the satan. He was a created being, and angel whom Adonai placed in a position of authority as an “anointed guardian cheruv (Ezekiel 28:14-19),” but “unrighteousness” was found in him, and Adonai cast him from the “mountain of God.”

Let us not be casual or flippant about the reality of the enemy of our souls.

Action: I choose to be actively aware of the enemy’s schemes and resist and defend myself and my family.

Yield: I choose to submit to the authority of Adonai.

Engage: I choose to engage all of life’s issues in the power of the Holy Spirit.

Relationship: I choose to live in holy, intimate, obedient relationship with Adonai.

Prayer: Father, thank You for identifying Your enemy, which is my enemy also. You are my master, redeemer.  In You I trust. Amen.

Memory Verse: Romans 6: 22-23 “But now, having been set free from sin and having become enslaved to God, you have your fruit resulting in holiness. And the outcome is eternal life. For sin’s payment is death, but God’s gracious gift is eternal life in Messiah Yeshua our Lord.” TLV
