Prayer: Father, your servant is ready to learn and embrace Your ways. Teach me to think as You think. Amen.
Reading: Zechariah 5 key: vs. 5-8 “Then the angel speaking with me came forward, and said to me, “Now lift up your eyes and see what is appearing.” I asked, “What is it?” He replied, “This is the measuring basket that goes out.” He continued, “This is their eye in all the land.” Then behold, a lead cover was lifted and a woman was sitting in the middle of the measuring basket. The angel exclaimed, ‘This is Wickedness!’ Then he shoved her back inside the measuring basket, throwing the lead weight over its mouth.” TLV
Attention: In the later days, one of the characteristics of worldly people is those “who call evil good and good evil (Isaiah 5:20).” They do not know God and openly defy Him. They are being used by the evil one to defy the Living God, Adonai, and they are clueless as to the death they are being led into. In the last verse of chapter one of the apostle Paul’s letter to the Roman faithful, he says “Though they know God’s righteous decree—that those who practice such things deserve death—they not only do them but also approve of others who practice the same (Romans 1:32).” Paul is acknowledging that even among those who “know God’s righteousness,” are those who are embracing wickedness which opposed to God.
This same wickedness is what Adonai exposed through Zechariah in chapter 5. The angels carried away a basket of a woman representative of the harlotry of Israel in worshipping false gods. Did you notice the mention of Shinar? According to the Holman Illustrated Bible Dictionary, “The tower of Babel was built in Shinar (Genesis 11:2-9). The king of Shinar opposed Abraham (Genesis 14:1). Isaiah prophesied that God would bring out a remnant of His people from Chinar (11:11). Daniel 1:1-2 and probably Zechariah 5:11 equate Babylon and Shinar thus limiting Shinar in its major city in the writer’s day (pg. 1489).”
The angelic being which Zechariah is in dialogue with declares this wicked woman is being transported to Shinar where a temple is being built for her to dwell in (vs. 11). She is being deported back to the nation she came from.
If we are a God-fearing nation as some claim, why are we ok with false religions building their temples (places of worship) in our nation? The key word narrative of our nation today is “tolerance.” How tolerant was Adonai of His people building palaces or temples of worship for their wives (see the stories of Solomon or Ahab)? Adonai eventually brought judgement upon Israel for their adultery (leaving God for another).
Our move back to God begins with us. Each individual declaring their allegiance to God (Adonai) and only Him.
Action: I choose to declare my allegiance to Adonai.
Yield: I choose to submit to the Sovereignty of Adonai.
Engage: I choose to engage with God’s word, His Holy Spirit, His angelic messengers, and His prophets in living for Him.
Relationship: I choose to live in holy, intimate, obedient relationship with Adonai.
Prayer: Father, how amazing that You provide us with multiple sources of knowing You and knowing Your will. Thank You for revealing Yourself through scripture, through Your angelic host, through Your prophets, through Your Spirit, and through anointed earthly messengers. You are the only Supreme God, Adonai. Amen.
Memory Verse: Isaiah 5:20 “Oy to those who call evil good and good evil, who present darkness as light and light as darkness, who present bitter as sweet, and sweet as bitter!” TLV
