Prayer: Father, may I choose to live a life faithful to You. Amen.
Reading: 1 Chronicles 10 key: vs. 13-14 “So Saul died because of his unfaithful acts that he committed against the word of Adonai, which he did not keep, and he even consulted a medium for guidance rather than inquire of Adonai. So He put him to death and transferred the kingdom to David the son of Jesse.” TLV
Attention: I am sad this morning in reading the account of Saul’s death. Who would choose to have their cause of death recorded and published for generations of men to read about. Yet, we live compromised lives with secret sin. Saul did not want anyone to know that he went by night to a witch to give him advice. He not only went at night, but he also disguised himself so that the medium would not recognize him. You see, he had been killing the local mediums and spiritist’s (1 Samuel 28:3). What height of hypocrisy that when God did not answer him, he went to the other side to seek counsel.
If you are not in the word daily and seeking God’s (Adonai’s Spirit) counsel, you are forfeiting wisdom which is beyond our wisdom and any other wisdom of this world. I used to live that way until the Holy Spirit got a hold of me. I have been on the path of seeking the counsel which comes from above and from His word. In 1 Corinthians 10:1-11, Paul gives the Corinthian faithful a history lesson which concludes with; “Now these things happened to them as an example, and it was written down as a warning to us—on whom the ends of the ages have come.” The purpose God had His letter’s written out, was for our instruction. Scripture acts as a warning to us, not to live as those who lived before us. Are we listening? If we are listening, we are not doing a particularly good job of applying the wisdom of scripture.
May I encourage you today to consult only God, His word, and Spirit filled advisors. You see, Saul was once anointed king of Israel. He thrived on the counsel of the prophet Samuel. But the day came when in his anxiety because the enemy was near, and Samuel did not appear nor did Adonai answer him, he chose to go to the other spirit side and consult a witch. He died the next day as a result. May Saul’s life, and the scriptures serve as a warning to you today.
Action: I choose today and this day forward, to consult only God and His word.
Yield: I choose to submit my life to the supremacy of God.
Engage: I choose to engage with the Holy Spirit in living for Adonai.
Relationship: I choose to live in holy, intimate, obedience to Adonai.
Prayer: Father, You are above all gods. You are supreme. There are none beside You. May our lives be totally submitted to You. Amen.
Memory Verse: 1 Corinthians 10:11 “Now these things happened to them as an example, and it was written down as a warning to us—on whom the ends of the ages have come.” TLV
