Adonai Established

Prayer: Father, David has been my favorite biblical character for years. Teach me life lessons through his victories and failures. Amen.

Reading: 1 Chronicles 14 key: vs. 1-2 “Now King Hiram of Tyre sent messengers to David, as well as cedar logs, stonemasons, and carpenters, to build a palace for him. Then David knew that Adonai had established him king over Israel, for his kingdom was highly exalted for the sake of His people Israel.” TLV

Attention: In the past couple of chapters in 1 Chronicles, we witnessed the favor of God as David’s time came, to ascend the throne of Israel. Throngs of battle-ready warriors came to David every day till he had an army like the army of God. God’s favor also brought caravans of food for the warriors. Today, “King Hiram of Tyre” sends lumber, and stone specialists, carpenters, “to build a palace for” David.

All this favor comes as a divine endorsement for David to establish his kingdom. David “knew” that Adonai had established him king over Israel! There was no doubt. Every where he turned, God’s favor was poured out on him.

The final two verses sum up the establishment of David’s kingdom. Unlike Saul, David consulted Adonai before he moved his troops or made decisions. “David did just as God commanded him, and they struck down the Philistine army from Gibeon to Gezer. So the fame of David spread throughout every land, and Adonai brought the fear of him upon all nations (1 Chronicles 14:16-17).” Because David consulted God, then obeyed His directions, he and his army prevailed and God “brought the fear of (David) him upon all nations.” David feared God and the result was nations feared David and His God!

Might we get the same results when we fear God and not man? David’s success was divinely originated. Adonai supported David as he walked with God. It was Adonai who brought David fame and success. It is God who can always take it away if we do not obey His commandments. Disobedience can cost us everything.

Action: I choose to live in obedience to God’s commands.

Yield: I choose to submit to the King of Kings.

Engage: I choose to engage with the Ruach in living a life of submission and obedience.

Relationship: I choose to live in submission and obedience to Adonai.

Prayer: Father, You promise to bless us when we live in obedience to Your commands. May we desire obedience to rebellion. Amen.

Memory Verse: 1 Samuel 15:22-23a “Samuel said: “Does Adonai delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obeying the voice of Adonai? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, to pay heed than the fat of rams. For rebellion is like the sin of divination and stubbornness is like iniquity and idolatry.” TLV
