Prophesied with Musical Instruments

Prayer: Father, may I learn from the Holy Spirit and from Your word today. Speak to me from Your word. Amen.

Reading: 1 Chronicles 24 key: vs. 1-2 “Moreover, David and the commanders of the army, set apart for avodah the sons of Asaph, Heman, and Jeduthun who prophesied with lyres, harps and cymbals. The list of those who performed this work according to their service was: from the sons of Asaph: Zaccur, Joseph, Nethaniah, and Asarelah. The sons of Asaph were under the supervision of Asaph, who prophesied under the hand of the king.” TLV

Attention: One of the most powerful worship services I recall attending was led by a male harpist. It was a solo concert, which masterfully crafted together medleys of hymns. I remember turning to the pastor seated next to me during the concert and expressing how powerful the unspoken word was.

I never thought of it as prophecy, as the church I was in at the time, did not embrace the ongoing manifestation of prophets. But as plain as day, these scriptures call the ministry of instrumentation, “prophecy.”

I have heard some exceptionally talented musicians, especially pianists, who played music before, and after worship services who I would classify in this manner, that they were prophesying to a congregation who was not understanding what was happening at the time.

I see a whole new level of prophesy from the teaching of this passage today. I hope that you will see the playing of instruments in worship in a whole new level, as prophesying to us.

Action: I choose to embrace the skillful playing of instruments as an avenue of prophecy.

Yield: I choose to submit to the musical skills of instrumentalists in being prophetic.

Engage: I choose to engage in the advancement of skilled musicians as being prophetic.

Relationship: I choose to live in close relationship with Jehovah Adonai.

Prayer: Father, I am blessed to know of the prophetic nature of instrumental playing unto You. I see instrumental music in a whole new way. Amen.

Memory Verses: Psalms 150:3-6 “Praise Him with the blast of the shofar. Praise Him with harp and lyre. Praise Him with tambourine and dance. Praise Him with string instruments and flute. Praise Him with clash of cymbals. Praise Him with resounding cymbals. Let every thing that has breath praise Adonai. Halleluyah!” TLV
