Prayer: Father, may I learn from the life of Jehoshaphat. Thank You for his example. Amen.
Reading: 2 Chronicles 17 key: vs. 3-6 “Adonai was with Jehoshaphat because he walked in the first ways of his father David. He did not seek the Baalim but sought the God of his father, and walked in His mitzvot rather than the deeds of Israel. So Adonai established the kingdom in his hand, and all Judah brought tribute to Jehoshaphat so that he had great riches and honor. His heart was devoted to the ways of Adonai. Furthermore he removed the high places and the Asherah poles from Judah.” TLV
Attention: Let’s follow the family tree from David. His son who reigned after him was Solomon and Solomon’s son was Rehoboam, his son Abijah followed him, his son was Asa, his son was Jehoshaphat. So, the writer of Chronicles is correct when he says, David was his father, he was a great-great-grandfather of Jehoshaphat’s.
I find it interesting that the text does not say that Jehoshaphat followed in his father’s footsteps, but David’s. If you recall, Asa, Jehoshaphat’s father, started his reign correctly, making many reforms spiritually and tearing down idols, but for some reason in the last few years of his reign, he got lazy, made bad decisions, and turned from Adonai.
I have been journaling for almost twenty years. My primary purpose for continuing to journal became to leave a spiritual legacy for my children. Hopefully, my children would discover through my journals, my heart for Adonai.
Men, I hope you will join me in the process of journaling your faith journey with Adonai, so that your children and their children will have a source to hear of your faith in God and like Jehoshaphat, they begin walking in your ways and seeking the God of their father.
Action: I choose to leave a legacy of faith for my children.
Yield: I choose to submit to the God of David.
Engage: I choose to engage with the Holy Spirit in living a life of power.
Relationship: I choose to live in holy, obedient relationship with Adonai.
Memory Verse: Deuteronomy 30: 19-20 ““I call the heavens and the earth to witness about you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. Therefore choose life so that you and your descendants may live, by loving Adonai your God, listening to His voice, and clinging to Him. For He is your life and the length of your days, that you may dwell on the land that Adonai swore to your fathers—to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob—to give them.” TLV
