To No One’s Regret

Prayer: Father, teach me today through the life of Jehoram. Amen.

Reading: 2 Chronicles 21 key: vs. 18-20 “After all this, Adonai smote his intestines with an incurable disease, and it continued day after day for two years, so that at the end his bowels fell out because of his sickness and he died in great agonies. His people made no fire in his honor like the fire of his fathers. He was 32 years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years and he passed away, to no one’s regret. He was buried in the city of David, but not in the tombs of the kings.” TLV

Attention: Have you ever heard someone say to a young man, “walk in your father’s footsteps and you cannot go wrong?”

We are told that Jehoram did just the opposite, that he walked not in the ways of his father’s God honoring ways. He was influenced by his marriage to King Ahab’s daughter. That means her mother was Jezebel who worshipped Baal (1 Kings 16:31). If he had any faith in Adonai, he was led astray. This is what God means when the writer says that Israel and Jehoram prostituted themselves. They knew the Torah and God’s command that there be no other gods beside Him. Yet, Jehoram plunged headfirst into the worship of demons.

His obvious spiritual compromise led him to slay all his brothers. Lions kill all former male cubs by the former pride ruler, to avoid any competition. Only a man who is being influenced by demonic forces could do such a thing.

Friends, engagement, and worship of demons not only is forbidden for His people but may lead to consequences of declining health or in Jehoram’s case, a terminal illness.

Adonai prompted the prophet Elijah to send a letter to Jehoram as a wake-up call. Jehoram could have repented and turned his life and judgement around, yet he chose to rebel against God. He was so evil that by the conclusion of his reign and death, the scriptures reveal that “he passed away to no one’s regret.” He was not even buried in tombs reserved for kings.

That is a sad epithet. No one mourned his passing. You have the opportunity to write your own epithet, Jehoram did. What do you want your epithet to be?

Action: I choose to honor Adonai with my life, my love, with all my heart.

Yield: I choose to submit to the sovereignty of God.

Engage: I choose to engage with the Spirit of Adonai in serving Him only.

Relationship: I choose to live in intimate, holy, obedient relation with Adonai.

Prayer: Father, it is a serious offense to You for a child of the King to entertain the worship of demons. May we leave no door open to the demonic. May we resist the devil in times of temptation and make him flee. May we openly expose all evil. May we like the apostles, intentionally call forth deliverance of people who are captives of demons. We need not fear the demonic which is subject to the name of Yeshua. Amen.

Memory Verse: Luke 10:17-19 “Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, “Master, even the demons submit to us in Your name!” And Yeshua said to them, “I was watching satan fall like lightning from heaven. Behold, I have given you authority to trample upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.” TLV
