Prayer: Father, teach me today about a loyalty which is uncommon today. May I apply the loyalty of Ruth to my family heritage. Amen.
Bible Project: Ruth https://bibleproject.com/explore/video/ruth/?utm_source=web_social_share&medium=shared_video
Reading: Ruth 1 key: vs. 16-17 “Ruth replied, “Do not plead with me to abandon you, to turn back from following you. For where you go, I will go, and where you stay, I will stay. Your people will be my people, and your God my God. Where you die, I will die, and there I will be buried. May Adonai deal with me, and worse, if anything but death comes between me and you!” TLV
Attention: I hope you listened carefully to the overview of the book of Ruth. Towards the end of the video, it is revealed who the three main characters are and how they relate to each other. The key words mentioned is “loyalty” and “providence.” Ruth and Boaz exhibit and uncommon loyalty to Naomi, a widow and survivor of two sons. That God is barely mentioned, underscores His providence in the lives of Naomi, Ruth, and Boaz. These three people do not know their roles in the story which God is writing and orchestrating. They are however, being obedient and loyal to the requirements of Hebrew Law, God’s Law.
Did you notice where Naomi and Ruth land in their journey back to Naomi’s heritage? They landed in Bethlehem, the birthplace of Messiah. The Bible Project video revealed the heritage of Ruth. She is the grandmother of king David, which is the royal lineage of Messiah (Matthew 1:1-16),
God supernaturally, led and guided Naomi and Ruth to Boaz to each other. Boaz fathered a child (Obed), which continued to line to David and then to Messiah. Generation to generation, God protected and maintained His plan.
I hope you will reflect on God’s providence over you and your family. I can testify to God’s faithfulness to me and my family over the years.
Action: I choose to acknowledge the providential nature of God today in my life.
Yield: I choose to submit to the providential nature of God.
Engage: I choose to engage in the acknowledgement of God’s providence.
Relationship: I choose to live in holy, intimate relationship with God.
Prayer: Father, You are amazingly involved in my life and the lives of those involved in Your story. What an amazing story the book of Ruth is. May those who read Ruth with me be awed by the story of a Moabitess, a non-Hebrew woman. By faith she embraced the God of Naomi and bore the father of Jesse, who fathered king David. Wow! Amen.
Memory Verse: Ruth 1:16 “Ruth replied, “Do not plead with me to abandon you, to turn back from following you. For where you go, I will go, and where you stay, I will stay. Your people will be my people, and your God my God.” TLV
