Prayer: Father, You prize honesty. May I never take credit for that which I did not do. Amen.
Bible Project: 2nd Samuel Overview
Reading: 2 Samuel 1 key: vs. 13-16 “Then David said to the young man who informed him, “Where are you from?” “I am a son of an Amalekite outsider,” he replied. Then David said to him, “How is it that you were not afraid to stretch out your hand to destroy Adonai’s anointed one?” Then David called one of the young men and said, “Come and strike him down.” And he struck him down and he died. David said to him, “Your blood is on your own head, for your mouth testified against you saying, ‘I killed Adonai’s anointed.’” TLV
Attention: I came across an article titled 9 Scientists Who Didn’t Get The Credit They Deserved. All throughout history, people have plagiarized, stolen intellectual property, stolen patents, and the people who deserved recognition did not receive it.
If we accept Samuel’s accounting about Saul’s death, it is found in 1 Samuel 31. The the opening chapter describes an unnamed Amalekite who comes to David, boasting of knowing the details surrounding Saul’s death and taking credit for finalizing Saul’s final moments. Divid believes him because your mouth testified against you saying, “I killed Adonai’s anointed.’”
According to Samuel’s accounting, the Amalekites testimony was not true. Was he attempting to gain David’s favor? If so, it did not work, for David himself would not raise his hand against Saul. He even lamented greatly the death of Saul and his sons. Perhaps we can learn a lesson about praying for our enemies and genuinely grieving the death of an enemy.
Action: I choose to embrace the grieving of the loss of enemies for the eternal significance of death.
Yield: I choose today to allow God’s timing for promotion.
Engage: I choose today to engage with the Holy Spirit in helping me to love my enemies.
Relationship: I choose today to live in intimate relationship with Adonai.
Prayer: Father, may I never take credit for something which I did not create or originate. May I be respectful of You and others. May I glorify You in all that I do. Amen.
Memory Verse: Colossians 3:12-13 “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves in tender compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience— bearing with one another and forgiving each other, if anyone has a grievance against another. Just as the Lord pardoned you, so also you must pardon others.” TLV
