A Divine Reversal

Prayer: Father, teach me today of Your supreme power to turn a curse into blessing. You alone can turn a king’s heart. You alone can transform my heart. Amen.

Reading: Nehemiah 13 key: vs. 1-2 “On that day, the scroll of Moses was read aloud in the hearing of the people. The command was found written in it that no Ammonite or Moabite should enter into the assembly of God forever. For they did not meet Bnei-Yisrael with bread and water, but instead hired Balaam against them to curse them. However, our God turned the curse into a blessing.” TLV

Attention: When I read today’s scripture, my mind went immediately to the testimony of Joseph when he proclaimed to his brothers, “Yes, you yourselves planned evil against me. God planned it for good, in order to bring about what it is this day—to preserve the lives of many people” (Genesis 50:20).

God can take the worst situations and turn them around for our good. The Apostle Paul even underscores God’s ability this way, “Now we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28). Lest we take this passage lightly, allow me to point out that this promise is not for everyone. The promise is targeted toward those who “love God.” We tend to casually say, “I love God.” But do we love Him like the new covenant requires, “You shall love Adonai your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind” (Matthew 22:37b).

The operative word “all” is conditional upon God’s intervention in our lives. “All” things work together for those who love God with “all” their heart, soul, and mind. Do we meet the conditions? For many of us, God has worked for our good despite our heart, winning us over by His love, grace, and mercy.

Nehemiah is referencing a situation in which the king of Moab hires a prophet (Balaam) to pronounce a curse on Israel. He confirms that Adonai, God of Israel, “turned the curse into a blessing.” He can do the same for you. Make sure your heart is full on in love with God.

Action: I choose to embrace the lifestyle of my heart being in love with Adonai.

Yield: I choose to embrace the love of a personal God and His desire to work all things for my good.

Engage: I choose to engage with the Spirit in His working all things for my good.

Relationship: I choose to live in intimate relationship with God.

Prayer: Father, thank You for working all things for good in my relationship with You. I embrace the providence which You have poured out upon me for my good. Amen.

Memory Verse: Romans 8:28 “Now we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to His purpose.” TLV
