Prayer: Father, the greatest example of humility is manifest in Messiah. Help me to garner an accurate understanding of humility. May I live humbly before You. Amen.
Reading: Daniel 4 key: vs. 34 “Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise, exalt and honor the King of heaven, because all His works are right and His ways just. He is able to humble those who walk in pride.” TLV
Attention: The Holman Illustrated Bible Dictionary defines humility as “the personal quality of being free from arrogance and pride and having a n accurate estimate of one’s worth.” King Nebuchadnezzar is taught from the hand of God, a lesson on humility.
Certainly, the greatest example of humility is Yeshua. The apostle Paul declares these words about Messiah, to the followers at Philippi, “Who, though existing in the form of God, did not consider being equal to God a thing to be grasped. But He emptied Himself— taking on the form of a slave, becoming the likeness of men and being found in appearance as a man. He humbled Himself— becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross (Philippians 2:6-8).”
Today’s text tells us that “The words were still in the King’s mouth…. Immediately the word about Nebuchadnezzar was fulfilled.” He was driven out to pasture, to eat grass like an ox. For seven years he lived in the fields until “Nebuchadnezzar raised (his) my eyes to heaven and my sanity returned to me. So I blessed the Most High and I praised and honored him who lives forever.”
It is said of many, “until they got low enough to look up,” they had not gotten low enough. Have you gotten low enough in your own eyes, to seek The Sovereign of Heaven and Earth? Nebuchadnezzar had finally arrived at a place of humility when he looked up. His sanity (right mind) returned to him, and he declared to Adonai, “praise, exalt (ation) and honor to the King of heaven, because all His works are right and His ways just. He is able to humble those who walk in pride.”
If you want to hasten the acquisition of humility, you can ask of Adonai and He will freely give you humility. If not, like Nebuchadnezzar, humility will come through some hard lessons. If God is able to humble kings (and He is), He surely is able to humble us.
