Reading: Daniel 6 key: vs. 26-28 “Then King Darius wrote to all the peoples, nations, and languages dwelling in all the earth: “May your peace be abundant! I issue a decree that in all the dominion of my kingdom people are to tremble with fear before the God of Daniel. “For He is the living God, enduring forever! His kingdom will never be destroyed, His dominion will never end. He delivers and rescues. He performs signs and wonders in the heavens and on earth. He has delivered Daniel from the power of the lions!”
Attention: Have you ever wondered if the Old Testament Law applied to us?
Having attended Evangelical Churches till I was fifty and then Pentecostal Churches, I have heard Romans 13 preached and advocated, “Let every person submit himself to the governing authorities (13:1).” Some will add the caveat, “Unless it violates the command of God.”
I want to point out a couple of scriptures to help us with the tension about submission.
First, Jesus (Yeshua) is quoted by Matthew as saying, ““Do not think that I came to abolish the Torah or the Prophets! I did not come to abolish, but to fulfill (5:17).” This is a very clear statement of the continuation of The Law, The Torah.
In our text today, Daniel is quoted as replying to the king, “My God sent His angel to shut the lions’ mouths so that they haven’t harmed me, because I was found innocent before Him. Nor have I committed any crime against you, O king (vs. 23).” Daniel verified that he not only was obedient to God and “found innocent,” he had not “committed any crime against” the king.
Daniel found in his obedience, fulfillment of the Law, submission to God (The Highest Order) and innocent of “any crime against” the king.
When submitted to the higher supremacy of God, even the King declared to all the peoples, nations, and languages,” “He (Daniel’s God) is the living God.” What greater testimony to the non-believing world, than an earthly king exalting The Heavenly King!
When we obey God’s law, we provide God with the platform to show off His might!
Action: I choose to be obediently submissive to the God of Daniel, Adonai.
Yield: I choose to yield my submission to Adonai.
Engage: I choose to engage with help of the Holy Spirit in being submissive to God.
Relationship: I choose to live in holy submission to Adonai.
Prayer: Father, Your ways are perfect. Your wisdom is far above mine. Lead me and guide me. Instruct me with Your Word. I choose to be submissive to Your Word. Amen.
