A Plumb Line

Prayer: Father, teach me by Your Spirit Lord. Open my eyes to see what I may not have seen before. Amen.

Reading: Amos 7 key: vs. 7-8 “This is what He has revealed to me: Behold, my Lord was standing by a vertical wall, and in His hand was a plumb line. Then Adonai said to me: “What do you see, Amos?” I said: “A plumb line.” Then my Lord said: “Behold, I am setting a plumb line among My people Israel— I will no longer pass over them.” TLV

Attention: For a brief period of my life, I was a licensed general contractor. I specialized in kitchen and bath remodels and on occasion I completed an unfinished basement. For a horizontal and vertical straight line, a contractor might use a laser instrument which self-levels. Prior to laser instruments, contractors for centuries used a “plumb line.” One could make a plumb line by using string attached to piece of metal which had a pointed tip. The plumb line was attached to something overhead and left to dangle vertically till still. The contractor now had a straight line with which to build with.

Adonai was using His word as a plumb line with Israel. Did they measure up to His commandments for their lives? His word is the standard.

Truth be known, the scriptures are a plumb line for us. They too extend from heaven to earther. A plumbline is vertical intentionally. Does my life measure up to the scriptures as the word of God? May we be aware that God has a measuring device in His word and a standard in Yeshua.

Action: I choose to live my life with the awareness of God’s standards in scripture.

Yield: I choose to submit to the standard which God has established in His word.

Engage: I choose to engage with the Holy Spirit in living a holy lifestyle.

Relationship: I choose to live in relationship with a Holy God.

Prayer: Father, Your word is a lamp unto my feet. Your word transforms my mind. Your word aligns my heart with Yours. Amen.

Memory Verse: Psalm 119:104-105 “From Your precepts I get discernment, therefore I hate every false way. Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” TLV
