Aaron

Prayer: Father, there is something which can be gained from every scripture. Teach me, lead me, guide me, and open my eyes to new truth. Amen.

Reading: 1 Chronicles 24 key: vs. 1-3 “Now these were the divisions of the sons of Aaron. The sons of Aaron were Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar. But Nadab and Abihu died before their father and had no children, so Eleazar and Ithamar served as kohanim. David, with Zadok of the sons of Eleazar and Ahimelech of the sons of Ithamar, divided them into their offices according to their avodah.” TLV

Attention: Aaron is an interesting man. If you are not familiar with Aaron, his is “Moses’ brother; Israel’s first high priest. His parents Amram and Jochebed were from the tribe of Levi, Israel’s tribe of priests (Exod. 6:16-26). Miriam was his sister. With his wife Elisheba, Aaron had four sons: Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. The first two perished when they offered sacrifices with fire that God had not commanded them to make (Lev. 101-2; 16:1,2). Two priestly lines developed from the remaining sons; Ithamar through Eli to Abiathar and Eleazer to Zadok (1 Sam. 14:3; 22:20; 1 Kings 2:26-27; 1 Chron. 6:50-53). (source: Holman Illustrated Bible Dictionary pg. 2).

The contributor of the information on Aaron and his sons was generous in saying that the offering which Aaron’s sons gave Adonai, which brought their death. In going to the Leviticus text, it says, they “offered unauthorized fire before Adonai—which He had not commanded them. So, fire came out from the presence of Adonai and consumed them. So, they died before Adonai. Then Moses said to Aaron, “This is what Adonai spoke of, saying: To those who are near Me I will show myself holy. Upon the faces of all the people I will be glorified.” Then Aaron kept silent (Leviticus 10:1b-3).”

The unauthorized sacrifice brought their death at the hand of Adonai. Fire came out of the sacrifice and “consumed them.” God took offense at their rebellious action, and it cost them their lives.

Rebellion has cost others their lives in the in documented scriptural accounts in the Old & New Testament. What God has commanded He means. I cannot say why God has enforced His commands upon some on the earth and not others. But one day we will all stand before Him and give an answer. Are you prepared?

Action: I choose to obey the commands of God.

Yield: I choose to yield to the sovereignty of Adonai.

Engage: I choose to engage with the Holy Spirit in obeying Adonai’s commands.

Relationship: I choose to live in holy, intimate, obedient relationship with God.

Prayer: Father, Your commands are serious. May I be obedient to Your commands upon my life. You have been gracious and merciful to me. Amen.

Memory Verse: Hebrews 10:31 “It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” TLV
