Adonai Caused

Prayer: Father, it is amazing how You supernaturally fight for Your people even in our sleep. Open our eyes Lord to Your protection, love, and care. Amen.

Reading: 2 Kings 7 key: vs. 6-7 “For Adonai had caused the army of the Arameans to hear a noise of chariots and a noise of horses—indeed a noise of a huge army. So they said one to another, “Look, the king of Israel has hired against us the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of the Egyptians to assault us.” So they got up and fled at twilight, abandoning their tents, their horses and their donkeys—the entire camp just as it was—and fled for their lives.” TLV

Attention: Synonyms for the word “cause” means to originate, beginnings, source, and Genesis. Where do we find Adonai’s intentionality? In the book of Genesis or beginnings, God creates from “chaos and waste, darkness was on the surface of the deep, and the Ruach Elohim was hovering upon the surface of the water. The God said, “Let there be light,” “Let there be an expanse in the midst of the water,” “Let the land sprout grass, green plants yielding seed,” Let lights in the expanse of the sky,” Let the waters swarm with swarms of living creatures,” “Let us make man in Our image (Genesis 1).”

God intentionally caused or causes events, miracles, healings, and deliverances to show His might and creational abilities.

In today’s scheduled reading, the writer of Kings records Adonai’s intentional action on behalf of His chosen people. They did not even have to face the Aramean army which was arrayed against them. God “caused” the Aramean army to hear a “noise of chariots and a noise of horses.”

For those who have never attended a horse race or a stampede, the sound meter of a hundred horses and chariots could be heard from a distance. God initiated and imitated the sound and brought fear to the hearts of the Aramean army such that they fled for their lives and left everything behind.

When God intervenes, victory is secured and assured. There are many instances where the scriptures declare that God “caused” or initiated the event or results. Another example is Genesis 45:8 where Joseph told his brothers, “It wasn’t you, you didn’t send me here, but God!” He understood and acknowledged the provident nature of God. The actions of his brothers and the subsequent rise to second in command of Egypt was no accident, but God planned.

God has been causing and initiating since He created mankind. I hope you see and acknowledge God’s initiating actions with us.

Action: I choose today to acknowledge God’s hand of providence, care, and protection.

Yield: I choose to submit to the mighty hand of God.

Engage: I choose to engage in the acknowledgement that God is my source of provision.

Relationship: I choose to live in intimate relationship with God.

Prayer: Father, why do we choose not to see Your hand in every aspect of our lives. I welcome the loving protection of a sovereign God. Amen.

Memory Verse: Matthew 5: 44-45 “But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.” TLV
