Prayer: Father, it is one thing to seek counsel, it is another to foolishly reject counsel. Help me to seek and listen to counsel. Amen.
Reading: 1 Kings 12 key: vs. 13-15 “The king answered the people harshly. He rejected the counsel the elders had given him, and spoke to them according to the counsel of the young men, saying, “My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to your yoke; my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.” So the king did not listen to the people. For it was a turn of events from Adonai fulfilling His word, which Adonai spoke by the hand of Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam son of Nebat.” TLV
Attention: Oh, the prophetic nature of Adonai as He told Jeroboam exactly what was going to happen. If you reference the previous chapter (1 Kings 11: 29- 39), you will discover that the prophet Ahijah nailed it. Not only weres Rehoboam’s actions prophesied, they were determined by Adonai.
The book of Proverbs writing tends to be attributed to Solomon. There is a scripture which is most applicable to this chapter. It is found in Proverbs 21:1 “A king’s heart is like a stream of water in the hand of Adonai; he directs it wherever He wants.”
The turn of events was directed by Adonai. The king involved was Solomon’s son, Rehoboam.
If God can direct the heart of a king, does it stand to reason that He can direct our hearts in whatever direction He wants?
Action: I choose to seek wise spiritual counsel and listen to it.
Yield: I choose to yield to godly counsel.
Engage: I choose to engage the counsel of the Holy Spirit and the wise counsel of elders.
Relationship: I choose to live in intimate relationship with God.
Prayer: Father, Your wisdom is greater than man’s wisdom. Man’s wisdom seems foolish in comparison. Guide my thoughts and decisions like a stream of water. Amen.
Memory Verse: Proverbs 21: 1 “A king’s heart is like a stream of water in the hand of Adonai; he directs it wherever He wants.” TLV
