Adonai Gave Victory

Prayer: Father, I thank You for the example of David, whose heart was for You. He consulted You throughout his life. Amen.

Reading: 2 Samuel 8 key: vs. 6b & 14b “So Adonai gave victory to David wherever he went.”

Attention: It was David’s heart (2 Samuel 7: 20b “For You already know Your servant, my Lord Adonai.), which triggered God’s promise to David in 2 Samuel 7: 28-29, “So now, my Lord Adonai, You alone are God, and Your words are truth, and You have promised Your servant this good thing. So now let it please You to bless the house of Your servant, to continue forever before You. For You, my Lord Adonai, have spoken, and with Your blessing Your servant’s house will be blessed forever.”

It is said of David that he “went in an sat before Adonai.” David met with God and submitted himself before God as His servant (vs. 27). As a result, God expanded David’s kingdom and gave him peace on all sides from his enemies. It was God who gave the victory, gave the peace, and gave the expansion of David’s kingdom.

Yes, David fought the battles, but God gave the victory and increase.

The understanding of the principle of honoring God was passed on to Solomon. In Psalm 127 (attributed to Solomon) we read, “Unless Adonai builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless Adonai watches over the city, the watchman stands guard in vain. In vain you rise up early and stay up late, eating the bread of toil— for He provides for His beloved ones even in their sleep” (vs. 1-2).

We can toil and labor without including God in the equation, and we will labor in vain. Why not work wiser and allow God to go before you and prepare the way? For God will work for His beloved, even while we sleep.

Action: I choose today to seek God’s counsel and guidance, and His blessing in all things.

Yield: I choose to submit to the counsel of God in every aspect of my life.

Engage: I choose to engage with the Holy Spirit in every decision and every choice of life.

Relationship: I choose to be in intimate relationship with God.

Prayer: Father, I seek Your counsel today and for life. Guide me in all of life’s decisions and choices. Amen.

Memory Verse: Psalms 127: 1-2 “A Song of Ascents. Of Solomon, Unless Adonai builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless Adonai watches over the city, the watchman stands guard in vain. In vain you rise up early and stay up late, eating the bread of toil— for He provides for His beloved ones even in their sleep.” TLV
