Adonai promised David

Prayer: Father, thank You for the promises You give and keep. You are completely faithful. Amen.

Reading: Psalm 132 key: vs. 11-12
11 Adonai has sworn to David
a true promise He will not revoke:
“From the fruit of your body
I will set one upon your throne—
12 if your children keep My covenant
and My law that I will teach them,
then their sons will sit on your throne forever.”

Attention: Has Adonai ever given you a vow or promise and not kept it? Have you ever broken a vow you made to or before Him? The sad reality is that we have all broken promises that we have made before Adonai or with Him. Unlike us, Adonai keeps His promises.

The psalmist reminds us that Adonai made a promise to David to with conditions. “I will set one (of your sons) upon your throne—if your children keep My covenant and My law that I will teach them, then their sons will sit on your throne forever.”

We know that Davids’s sons did not keep their part of the covenant, for in 722 BC, the Assyrians took the northern tribes of Israel captive. Then in 586 BC, the Babylonians took the remaining Israel nation into captivity. We can track the sons of David who took the throne through the genealogy found in Matthew 1: 1-17, which begins with Abraham to David, and from David to the Babylonian exile, to from the Babylonian exile to Messiah through Joseph, husband of Miriam.

Adonai kept His promise. David’s sons did not. This one thing will never change about Adonai. He is a promise keeper. He will fulfill His promises. Some of the covenants were given to Israel, but He has given us promises too. On your journey with me through the Bible, watch for His promises to everyone.

Here are a couple of promises to get you started. In Matthew 28: 20b, Yeshua is recorded by Matthew to have said, “And remember! I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Yeshua also told His disciples, “In My Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If it were not so, would I have told you? If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and take you to Myself, so that where I am you may also be (John 14: 2-3).”

I pray that you are comforted by these words and that you embrace the promises to us in the scriptures today. Adonai is fully faithful and what was promised to us by Yeshua, will happen. They will be fulfilled.

Action: As I study the Word of Adonai, I will remember and embrace the promises given to me.

Yield: I will submit to the promises of Adonai.

Engage: I will engage by saying “yes” to His promises.

Relationship: Adonai is a covenant-making, covenant-keeping God.

Prayer: Father, thank You for being eternally faithful. Amen.

Memory Scripture: 2 Corinthians 1: 20
20 For in Him all the promises of God are “Yes.” Therefore also through Him is the “Amen” by us, to the glory of God.
