Adonai sees

Prayer: Father, You are the Adonai, the God who sees. Thank You for being a God who sees and cares. Amen.

Reading: Genesis 29 key: vs. 31
31 Now Adonai saw that Leah was unloved, so he opened her womb; but Rachel was unable to conceive.

Attention: For those women who are participating with First Place Ministries in the journey through Genesis and are facing fertility challenges, I hope we can provide comfort.

In today’s key passage, Adonai intervenes because He sees Leah’s pain; she was unloved. Adonai’s resolve, because he sees that Leah is unloved, is to “open” Leah’s womb. The scripture reveals the intentionality of Adonai to intentionally fulfill His purposes. It is from Jacob and the covenant between Adonai and his grand-father, Abraham, and father, Isaac, to build a nation through their line. Jacob would have intentionally twelve sons who would become twelve tribes, composing an entire nation.

Imagine Rachel’s heart when she sees Leah having sons and she has none. Eventually, the pressure of envy builds within her. In the next chapter Rachel explodes verbally upon Jacob. His response is to tell her he is not God who opens the womb and gives children as a gift.

Like Abraham and Sarah, Rachel offers her handmaiden as a surrogate, so that she can give her husband a male child. The plan works and Adonai blesses Rachel and Jacob with a son.

I want to encourage the barren with the rest of the story. Jacob is to have twelve sons through Leah, Rachel, and the handmaidens. Sometime after ten sons are born to Jacob through Leah and the handmaidens, God “remembers” Rachel and blesses her with a son. We will tell you the details tomorrow, but suffice to say, number eleven was not the first born, but he was one of the most preeminent of the twelve. This son’s story comprises most the remainder of Genesis, so stay tuned.

If you long to have a child, I encourage you today to read Hannah’s story in 1 Samuel 1 & 2. Samuel has a very prominent place in the history of the nation of Israel. Then know that Adonai is a God who “sees” and “remembers.” He sees your pain, remembers your tears and prayers, and is with you (Matthew 28: 20b). He promises never to leave you or forsake you.

Like Hannah, Rachel, and other couples whom I have known, God has intervened and blessed them with a child. He can and will do the same for you!

Action: I pray today for all the couples who are crying out to Adonai for a child. Lord, please bless them with the desire of their heart!

Yield: When I place my desires, wants, and needs at the foot of the cross.

Engage: Adonai desires to give us the desire of our heart.

Relationship: I reach to Adonai as my Provider!

Prayer: Father, for all who have a godly desire to have a child whom they will raise to love Your holiness, please fulfill that desire today. In the name of Yeshua, amen.
