Prayer: Father, as I conclude the study of Numbers, help me to make an observation which will help others to know You and Your voice. I seek to know you more deeply and intimately. Amen.
Reading: Numbers 36 key: vs. 13
13 These are the mitzvot and judgments that Adonai gave by Moses’s hand to Bnei-Yisrael, on the plains of Moab at Jericho along the Jordan.
Attention: One of the key aspects of Inductive Bible Study is to observe repetition. By studying one chapter a day, we are slowing down the process of study and observation. The goal of the Bible Study Plan I began about twenty years ago, was to read the Bible through in one year. I found that not everyone could keep that kind of pace and they became discouraged. So, I designed the Choose Life plan to be more achievable. If you find a chapter per day overwhelming, then I encourage you to do what feels comfortable.
By slowing down, I liken the slower process to what we see when we slow our means of transportation. For example, for those who have experienced air travel, one gets a broader overview of a city as the plane takes off or lands. We get another view of a city or town when we drive our car. We see differing aspects of a city when we walk. With each means of transportation, we see new things.
The goal of our study is not speed, it is observation and application. What good does it do us to know about the Word and not make application? Speed reading the Bible is like eating fast and not tasting the intricate flavors of a prepared dish. The Word of Adonai is rich and full. The Bible not only tells us about God, but it is also God speaking to us through Moses and the various writers who penned the words, inspired by the Ruach Elohim (Spirit of God).
The observation I make about the book of Numbers, is that a number of the chapters begin with, “and Adonai spoke to Moses saying.” Unlike the rest of the Hebrew nation who heard Adonai’s commands from Moses’ mouth, we can speak to God (Adonai) directly. Hearing God is something we develop with the aid of the Holy Spirit. We hear Him through His Word in the Bible. We hear Him answer our prayers. We hear His pleasure as we worship Him. We hear His voice as we walk and talk with Him. We hear his voice in visions and dreams. We only hear His voice as we develop intimacy with Him by daily coming into His presence. As New Testament followers, we have the benefit of His Spirit residing within us. We can have intimacy with the living God, Adonai.
You may have spoken to God for years. I encourage you to now speak with God and develop an ear to hear Him. Scripture says, His sheep know His voice. Do you know His voice?
Action: I choose today to go deeper with God. I choose intimacy with God and His Word.
Yield: I choose today to yield my will and pursue God with all my heart.
Engage: I choose to engage with the Word and the Holy Spirit every day.
Relationship: I choose to be intimate with Adonai, in full relationship.
Prayer: Father, I come to You thirsty and hungry today. I desire to know You and hear Your voice. Lead me into deep waters of communion with You. Amen.
Memory Verse: John 10:27
27 My sheep hear My voice. I know them, and they follow Me.
