Prayer: Father, Your instruction and wisdom is greater than mine. I thank You for writing the Bible as an instructional manual for living. May I heed Your Word. Amen.
Reading: Proverbs 23 key: vs. 19-21
19 Listen, my son, and be wise,
and guide your heart in the right way.
20 Do not join those drinking too much wine
or gorging on meat,
21 for both drunkards and gluttons will be impoverished—
grogginess will clothe them with rags.
Attention: Excesses in our life can be harming and the scriptures today give us warning about two areas of our lives, the abuse of alcohol and gluttony.
I hope you have a concept about your body which the apostle Paul embraces and writes about to the Corinthians, “But the one who joins himself to the Lord is one spirit with Him” (1 Corinthians 6:17). Paul goes on to say, “don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Ruach ha-Kodesh who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body” (vs. 19-20).
Would it have influence how you treat your body is you understood that the presence of God, His Spirit dwells in you if you have “joined” yourself to Him?
Over the years, I have heard people pray in the church who have not understood this doctrine of our bodies being the temple of God. Their prayer goes like this, “be with us Lord.” Where do they think God is, that requires Him to be invited into our presence?
In Matthew 18:20, Jesus declared this, “For where two or three are gathered together in My name, there I am in their midst.” Additionally, Paul told the Corinthians, “Test yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith Examine yourselves! Or don’t you know yourselves—that Messiah Yeshua is in you?” (2 Corinthians 13:5).
A proper doctrine of your body as God’s temple will keep you from abusing your body with alcohol, prescription and non-prescription drugs, overeating, junk food, smoking and an array of other abuses.
Action: I embrace the concept of my body being the Temple of God and I will strive to respect my body and give it the proper nutrition, rest, and care.
Yield: I am submitted to God when I treat His Temple, my body with respect.
Engage: I am engaged with the Holy Spirit when I honor Him by not abusing His temple.
Relationship: I am in full relationship with God when my body is His dwelling place!
Prayer: Father, I praise You for dwelling in me. I welcome Your presence, manifest in dwelling inside of me. Glory! In the name of Yeshua! Amen.
Memory Verse: 2 Corinthians 13:5
5 Test yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Examine yourselves! Or don’t you know yourselves—that Messiah Yeshua is in you? Unless of course you failed the test.
