Prayer: Father, may all the earth know that You alone are God. Amen.
Reading: 1 Samuel 17 key: vs. 46-47 “This very day Adonai will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you down and take your head off you, and I will give the carcasses of the Philistines’ camp today to the birds of the sky and the wild beasts of the earth. Then all the earth will know that there is a God in Israel, and so all this assembly will know that Adonai delivers not with sword and spear—for the battle belongs to Adonai—and He will give you into our hands.” TLV
Attention: What if nations that war were to pit all their hopes on one “Champion” as their representative with the agreement, the winner takes all. There is a movie released in 1970 which used this premise, titled The Challenge. Here is an online review, “All-out war between the United States and an Asian country is averted when the two sides agree to settle their differences by each choosing a single soldier as champion, and having the two men fight to the death on an isolated island. —Jim Beaver <jumblejim@prodigy.net>.”
The Philistines had their champion in Goliath and every morning and evening for a forty-day period, he came to the battle lines and taunted the army of Israel. He proposed Israel send their best to fight him in a winner take all offer. Not one soldier of Israel’s army volunteered till David came along. David understood that this was not a contest of soldiers, but a contest of whose God would prevail.
Notice that as Goliath and David approached each other, Goliath “cursed David by his gods.” Both combatants called in their god, David approaching Goliath in the name of Adonai. David declared that by the time he had conquered Goliath, “all the earth will know that there is a God in Israel” and “all this assembly” of soldiers (both armies) “will know that Adonai delivers not with sword and spear—for the battle belongs to Adonai—and He will give you into our hands.”
David’s name was not on the line, but Adonai’s was. David’s confidence was in Adonai. He would deliver and everyone would know that Adonai was the only God.
Action: I choose today to declare Adonai as the only God, supreme and above all gods
Yield: I choose today to yield to the sovereignty of Adonai.
Engage: I choose to engage by declaring Adonai as my sovereign King, Lord, and Master.
Relationship: I choose today to declare a forever relationship with Adonai.
Prayer: Father, thank You for the example of David, who declared as he was approaching Goliath, the nemesis of Israel, in the name of Adonai. May I also see the battles of life in the spiritual realm. Amen.
Memory Verse: Ephesians 6:12 “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the worldly forces of this darkness, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.” TLV
