An Audience of One

Prayer: Father, it is only You I desire to please. It is only You that I cry out to. It is only You, that hears my praise. Amen.

Reading: Psalm 18 key: vs. 1
For the music director: a psalm of David the servant of Adonai. He chanted the words of this song to Adonai on the day Adonai delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul.

Attention: Do you seek an audience of One? This is what we do when we journal every day. Who do I write for? Who do I praise? Who do I give and express my love?

I remember a dream that I had as a youngster of under seven as I know I was living in Kansas. I held my dad in high regard, and I had just seen one of the first movies in my life, King Kong. You may be familiar with more contemporary versions, but this was the black and white, original version. I know I said, I had a dream, it was more a nightmare.

As a result of seeing King Kong, I dreamt that a gorilla had entered my room (it was not King Kong) and was attempting to get me. The gorilla was approaching my bed and about to get me when my dad swung the door to my bedroom open and beat the gorilla up and rescued me.

King David acknowledges the sovereignty of God in his rescue from “the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul.” He captures in word pictures the character and nature of God as his “rock, fortress, my deliverer” and The source of “refuge, shield, salvation and stronghold.” In singing God’s praises, he begins by saying, “I love You,” which is a great place to start and end my praise.

When is the last time, in an audience of One, have I told the Lord God, “I love You?” David did it in a chant, something like what we call Hip Hop today. The difference, he was expressing his raw emotions to an audience of One. Who knows, maybe after you leave this world, your ancestors, your children may find your journal and come to know your heart and the One to whom you expressed your love.

Action: I will express my love for God today in my journal and be captured and documented historically.

Yield: I become more yielded every day that I journal unto the Lord.

Engage: I reinforce my love for God when I write it out daily.

Relationship: I am engaged in full relationship with God when I journal daily.

Prayer: Father, I love You. Amen.

Memory Verse: Psalm 18:32 & 47
32 For who is God, except Adonai?
And who is a Rock, except our God?
47 Adonai lives! And blessed be my Rock!
Exalted be God my salvation!
