Prayer: Father, You are the Ancient of Days, a title which reveals more of Your character to Your servant. Give me understanding about the name which Daniel gave to You. Amen.
Reading: Daniel 7 key: vs. 9-10 ““While I was watching, thrones were set up, and the Ancient of Days took his seat. His garment was as white as snow, and the hair of His head like pure wool. His throne was ablaze with flames, its wheels a burning fire. A river of fire was flowing and coming out from before Him. Thousands of thousands attended Him and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before Him. The court was seated, and the books were opened.” TLV
Attention: Mankind has ascribed titles to his earthly leaders like, Monarch, King, Queen, Potentate, Emperor, and Empress but Daniel introduces his readers to a name given only to God, Ancient of Days.
What does Ancient of Days mean? According to the Holman Illustrated Bible Dictionary, Ancient of Days “describes the everlasting God. Ancient of Days literally means “one advanced in (of) days” and may possibly mean “one who forward time or rules over it.” “In ancient Ugaritic literature, the god El is designated as ‘the father of years.” “Ancient of Days” further suggests, “age, antiquity, dignity, endurance, judgment, and wisdom. It clearly describes Yahweh, the God of Israel (pg. 66).”
We find other character traits in scripture which suggest that God is Omniscient, Omnipresent, Omnipotent, as well as Veracity, but there is only One “Ancient of Days.”
