As A Pleasing Aroma

Prayer: Father, help me to discover a new character trait of Your sovereignty today. Open my eyes, heart and mind to Your commands. Amen.

Reading: Numbers 29 key: vs. 13a
You are to offer a burnt offering by fire to Adonai as a pleasing aroma.

Attention: When I was a youngster, I recall wanting to do things which my school teacher or my parents were pleased with. I would even go to them and ask if there was something I could do for them. They would give me simple tasks like cleaning the erasers used with the old chalk boards or washing the family car.

I simply draw from this illustration that when we are young, we seem to have that desire to please our parents and adult leaders. Where does that desire go as we age? Do we somehow lose that desire to please?

In our key scripture today, Adonai has commanded Moses to initiate Moadim (appointed times) which are to be observed throughout the year. Each of the appointed times involve worship by sacrifice of fire and Adonai gives Moses the awareness that this type of sacrifice creates a “pleasing aroma” which is acceptable to Him.

Are there elements of our worship which are pleasing and acceptable to Adonai? The question I pose to all of us, do we want our worship to be pleasing to Adonai? If so, what do we need to do to make our worship pleasing and acceptable to Him?

As we study scripture together, let’s watch for scripture which guides us as to what is pleasing and acceptable worship of Adonai. As a few suggestions, Paul challenges us to give our bodies as a living sacrifice in Romans 12:1-2. King David addresses his concern about pleasing Adonai when he says, “May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable before You, Adonai, my Rock and my Redeemer (Psalms 19:15).” TLV

Action: I choose today that my worship be pleasing and acceptable to Adonai.

Yield: I desire my worship to be pleasing to God.

Engage: I choose to engage with the Holy Spirit in worship of Adonai.

Relationship: I choose to be One with the Holy Spirit.

Prayer: Father, I want my life to be pleasing to You. May the words of my mouth be acceptable to You. Amen.

Memory Verse: Psalm 19:15
15 May the words of my mouth
and the meditation of my heart
be acceptable before You,
Adonai, my Rock and my Redeemer.
