Prayer: Father, I come eager to listen and learn today. I am ready to receive instruction and guidance. Teach Your servant and slave. Amen.
Reading: Joshua 24 key: vs. 14-15 “Now therefore, fear Adonai and worship Him in sincerity and in truth. Get rid of the gods that your fathers had worshipped beyond the River and in Egypt, and worship Adonai. If it seems bad to you to worship Adonai, then choose for yourselves today whom you will serve—whether the gods that your fathers worshipped that were beyond the River or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will worship Adonai!” TLV
Attention: There comes a time in everyone’s life when they are faced with the decision of eternity and the decision of whom they will serve. The apostle Paul deals with these issues in the 6th chapter of Romans. He makes the issues very black and white. There are two Masters. Which one do you serve? If you do not know, then unawares, you serve the master of darkness. If you have been set free from sin (something only God can do), then you are “enslaved to righteousness.” It is a great study and one which I wrote on in my book, BondSlave: The Inconvenient Truth About Your Identity In Christ.
Joshua has made his appeal as the anointed leader of Bnei-Yisrael to their loyalty and obedience to Adonai. He offers them the choice of fearing Adonai and worshipping Him in sincerity and truth. If it seems bad to worship “the gods that your fathers worshipped beyond the River and in Egypt, then choose for yourselves today whom you will serve.”
Make a choice and make a declaration today! Will you serve Adonai, or any other god? Then Joshua makes his declaration, “But as for me and my household, we will worship Adonai!”
Have you made your declaration in favor of Adonai? Have you resolved never to turn back to your old lifestyle of sin, rebelliousness, and half-heartedly living for Him? Fathers, as the dad goes, so goes the entire family. Take hold of the spiritual leadership of your family. Establish a heritage of faith for your family. Declare today who you serve.
Action: I choose and declare today, my allegiance to Adonai. I will serve Adonai only!
Yield: I choose to yield to the Sovereignty of Adonai today!
Engage: I choose today to engage in wholehearted devotion to Adonai.
Relationship: I choose, declare, and resolve today my allegiance to Adonai.
Prayer: Father, I declare my allegiance to You. I resolve that my household will serve You alone. Make my life a living sacrifice, holy unto You. Amen.
