Before! Seek!

Prayer: Father, the Day of the Lord approaches. I will heed the words of Zephaniah, being prepared for the coming Day of the Lord. I seek You today, tomorrow, and forever. Amen.

Reading: Zephaniah 2 key: vs. 1-3 “Gather together! Gather together, O shameless nation—before the decree is brought forth, before the day passes away like chaff, before Adonai’s burning anger comes upon you, before the day of Adonai’s anger comes upon you! Seek Adonai, all you humble of the land who have executed His judgment. Seek righteousness; seek meekness! Perhaps you will be hidden on the day of Adonai’s wrath. TLV

Attention: For those who are utilizing the inductive method of scripture study, repetition of words is something we watch for. There are two word which jump off the page to me, “before” and “Seek.”

Note that as Zephaniah documents the word given him by Adonai, he establishes that the word being given him is for other nations, not Israel. The towns he mentions like Gaza (have you heard that name in the news lately? It was a Philistine town/region/area which perished and has not existed since); Askelon, Ashdod, and Ekron all Philistine towns.

Since Adonai eradicated, demolished, rendered total devastation to these towns like Sodom and Gomorrah, and Jericho (which no longer exist), why suddenly is Palestine and cities of the Philistines & other nations, declaring and gaining support to be recognized as a sovereign nation. Adonai gave that land to the nation of Israel, His sovereign nation. The why is spiritual in nature. All the battles being played out on earth, between Israel and the opposing nations, is spiritual in nature.

The guns, missiles, and bombs are being directed at Israel because the god of this world is opposing the nation which claims Adonai as their God. They are facing destruction. Adonai is saying through Zephaniah, “before” the day of the Lord arrives, as the militaries of nations descend upon Israel’s door, “seek” the Lord! Seek His righteousness. Seek meekness which is based in humbleness, gentleness, forbearance, patience, and long-suffering, all characteristics of Messiah.

We are seeking Adonai when we are “seeking” Him through the word and spirit. When we are seeking Him, our relationship with Him grows deeper and His Spirit transforms us into His image. I propose that the Choose Life method is a lifetime lifestyle of those who diligently seek Him.

Action: I choose to seek Yeshua daily for the rest of my earthly life so that I may be with Him for eternity.

Yield: I choose to submit to the Lordship of Yeshua.

Engage: I choose to engage with the Holy Spirit in being led into all truth.

Relationship: I choose to live in intimate, holy relationship with Adonai.

Prayer: Father, I thank You for Your instruction through Zephaniah. May I be diligent to seek You the rest of my earthly life, so that I may live with You for eternity. Amen.

Memory Verse: Hebrews 11:6 “Now without faith it is impossible to please God. For the one who comes to God must believe that He exists and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.” TLV
