Ben-oni

Prayer: Father, I can be small in Your kingdom and still be significant. Teach me today. Your servant is listening. Amen.

Reading: 1 Chronicles 8 key: vs. 40 “Now the sons of Ulam were mighty men of valor, archers, and had many sons and grandsons—150. All these were descendants of Benjamin.”

Attention: Who is Ben-oni? We are told in Genesis 35 of a man named Jacob, who had two wives, Leah, and Rachel. The full story is in the preceding chapters in Genesis and the rest of the story is still being told. Rachel was pregnant and as they were traveling, Rachel began to give birth. It was a difficult birth, so she named the boy Ben-oni (“son of my sorrow”) and died. His father Jacob would not stand for the name and renamed him Benjamin. Who was Benjamin? His older brother by the same mother, was Joseph.

The tribe of Benjamin was the smallest tribe but one of the most significant. They were located next to the tribe of Judah. “Saul, Israel’s first king was a Benjamite. Furthermore, the city of Jerusalem was near the border between the territories of Benjamin and Judah and may have been in Benjamin originally (Joshua 18:1; Judges 1:21).” Source: The Holman Illustrated Bible Dictionary pg. 186.

You may be the youngest child in your family, as Benjamin was and fighting for significance. Genesis 35:19 gives us some information that I had forgotten; “Then Rachel died and was buried on the way to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem).” Benjamin was born in Bethlehem, where our Messiah was born centuries later. We may not feel significant, but our association with the Messiah makes us significant. Messiah was not born yet, but Benjamin’s name is included in God’s story of a tribe which composed His covenant family. If you have accepted Yeshua’s invitation to follow Him, you have joined His forever family.

Action: I am significant because I have joined Yeshua’s forever family.

Yield: I choose to submit to the Supremacy of Adonai.

Engage: I choose to engage with the Holy Spirit in living for and with Yeshua.

Relationship: I choose to live in relationship with Adonai.

Prayer: Father, I am significant in Your kingdom. My significance comes from identifying with You, loving You, and worshiping You. You are my King! Amen.

Memory Verse: John 3:16-18 ““For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through Him. The one who believes in Him is not condemned; but whoever does not believe has been condemned already, because he has not put his trust in the name of the one and only Ben-Elohim.”
