Prayer: Father, may I be a blessing to You and others. Help me to count my blessings from You and others. Amen.
Reading: Deuteronomy 33 key: vs. 1
This is the blessing with which Moses the man of God blessed Bnei-Yisrael before his death.
Attention: Blessing is something which culturally the Bnei-Israel participated in doing. We see Israel (Jacob) the man blesses each son, as he approached death. He brought his sons together and blessed them. According to the Holman Illustrated Dictionary, ‘the word “bless” meant to fill with benefits, either as an end in itself or to make the object blessed a source of further blessing for others. God is most often at least the understood agent of blessing in this sense, and blessing a person often amounted to calling on God to bless them (pg. 223).’
In my book Ekklesia Declared, I designed a chart which shows the order of the blessing each son received from their father Israel. The chart also lists the birth order of each son, mother, and the order they received their portion of land they are after they conquer the promised land.
I should have added the order which Moses blesses the sons of Israel. Notice he did bless Reuben the first born, first. But he did not bless them in birth order the rest of the way. Also, notice that Moses did not bless one son or tribe. I’ll let you look for that omission. Also, notice between the listing of birth order found in Genesis 29-35, names are added in Genesis 48 & 49. You can use these chapters to reference the blessing of Moses in today’s chapter.
The observations of who, what, when, and where, are elements we use in the Inductive approach to Bible study. These observations often lead to discoveries and more questions.
Blessings from a father are a prophetical event. I would encourage every father of faith to consider leaving a heritage of faith to the next generation. Unlike the recordings of Israel and Moses blessings, let’s give and leave a blessing to all our children.
Action: I choose to give a spiritual faith blessing to my children as I near my death.
Yield: I choose to give a spiritual heritage blessing to my children.
Engage: I choose to engage with the Holy Spirit in giving a blessing of faith to my children.
Relationship: I choose to live in faith with God and leave a spiritual faith blessing to my children.
Prayer: Father, what an example is given to me in the lives of Israel and Moses. Passing a spiritual faith mantel to my children is something which I desire and choose to do. Amen.
