Celebration!

Prayer: Father, I love music which leads me to worship You. I rejoice with David and the nation of Israel as they worshipped You on this special day! Amen.

Reading: 2 Samuel 6 key: vs. 5 “Meanwhile David and the whole house of Israel were celebrating before Adonai with all kinds of instruments made of cypress wood, with harps, lyres, tambourines, three-stringed instruments and cymbals.” TLV

Attention: I attended a Messianic worship service years ago. For someone raised on evangelical style worship, the music was much different than what I was used to hearing. It was festive and celebratory. The instrumentation was different too. Dancing was an added element which was not familiar to me.

My background was based in hymns and song which told us about the character of God. Messianic music was celebrating God.

The music celebration recorded in the sixth chapter of 2 Samuel seems to me to be what I experienced in some measure, that day. David was dancing unto Adonai. For him, his dancing was an intimate expression of his heart. He was not doing it for show or any other purpose, “It was before Adonai “(vs. 21a).

Have you ever been so Holy Spirit-focused in worship, that you were unaware of others around you? I can remember a time when I began to worship with my arms extended toward God. It felt awkward at first. In fact, I felt conspicuous. Now extending my arms in praise, seems second nature. For David, dancing seemed deeply intimate and only for God. He was not doing it to impress or draw attention. His celebration in dance was only for the Lord.

Action: I choose today to celebrate and worship God as if only He and I were present.

Yield: I choose today to celebrate God with unobstructed awe.

Engage: I choose today to engage with the help of the Holy Spirit in unobstructed worship.

Relationship: Intimate relational worship is just You and me Lord.

Prayer: Father, may I come to a place in my worship of You, that I am not distracted by anything or anyone around me. My total focus is on You. Amen.

Memory Verse: Isaiah 26:3 “You keep in perfect peace one whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.” TLV
