Prayer: Father, may I find refuge in You. You are the ultimate refuge and protection. Amen.
Reading: Numbers 35 key: vs. 11
11 You are to select cities which will be cities of refuge, to which one might flee if he has killed someone by accident.
Attention: As you adopt an attitude of being a lifelong studier of the Bible and a lifelong journeyer of relationship with Yeshua, you begin to see there is nothing new under the sun. We may think we have thought of something new, when God initiated it centuries before.
You may have heard the term “sanctuary cities” in the news but have not understood the term. In chapter 35 God instituted “cities of refuge,” for the purpose of providing refuge or sanctuary (protection) for someone who kills someone “accidentally.” To provide protection “so that the manslayer may not die before standing trial before the assembly.” It wasn’t meant to protect someone who had killed someone intentionally. Please read the qualifications. It had to be an accident which caused someone’s death.
Today, “The term “sanctuary city” is a broad term applied to jurisdictions that have policies in place designed to limit cooperation with or involvement in federal immigration enforcement actions. Cities, counties and some states have a range of informal policies as well as actual laws that qualify as “sanctuary” positions. (What are sanctuary cities? | CNN Politics)
Adonai’s original design does not subvert the law but provides a way to protect someone who caused someone’s death accidentally from someone taking the law into their own hands. It allows for the judicial process to determine cause and intent.
Action: I will embrace the need to refuge as defined by scripture.
Yield: I choose to yield to scriptural definitions of refuge and sanctuary.
Engage: I choose to engage in the process of life as defined by Yeshua.
Relationship: I choose to journey this life in relationship with Yeshua.
Prayer: Father, when I use Your definitions for law, order, borders, and boundaries, I do better. As a nation we do better when the individuals do better. Amen.
Memory Verse: Psalm 119: 33-34
33 Teach me the way of Your decrees, Adonai,
and I will follow them to the end.
34 Give me understanding,
that I may keep Your Torah
and observe it with all my heart.
