Prayer: Father, may I learn something about clearing out giants in my own life. Amen.
Reading: 1 Chronicles 20 key: vs. 5-8 “Again there was war with the Philistines, and Elhanan the son of Jair killed Lahmi, the brother of Goliath the Gittite, whose spear had a shaft like a weaver’s beam. Once again there was a battle at Gath, where there was a man of great stature who had 24 fingers and toes, six on each hand and six on each foot. He too also descended from the giants. When he taunted Israel, Jonathan son of Shimea, David’s brother, struck him down. These were descendants of the giants in Gath; they fell by the hand of David and his servant.” TLV
Attention: 1 Samuel 17 tells the account of David’s first encounter with a giant, a “dread warrior” of the Philistines. Like the descendant mentioned in the Chronicles account, they were imposing physical specimens in stature. Each of them had extra digits, fingers and toes. They were human plus, and then some. Like a pro-wrestler, the giant operated in fear. Taunting and intimidating the opposing Hebrew nation.
David, on the other hand, operated in faith. Taking to task the giant with statements of faith in Adonai, the God of the Hebrew nation. His courage in Adonai caused him to question, “For who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the ranks of the living God (1 Samuel 17:26b)?” David’s eyes were on God and not on the enemy. His resolve was from experience tending his father’s sheep. To David, Goliath was no different than the bear and the lion he had killed protecting his father’s sheep. “Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear, so this uncircumcised Philistine will become like one of them—since he has defied the ranks of the living God.” Then David said, “Adonai, who has delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine (vs. 36-37).”
We all have giants who attempt to intimidate and paralyze us. How we look at our giants makes all the difference. What would happen to your giants if you looked at them like David? What would happen if like David, we called on Adonai, to “deliver me (us) from the hand of this (enemy) Philistine?”
Action: I choose to call on Adonai for help in being delivered from my giants and enemies.
Yield: I choose to submit to the sovereignty of God as my deliverer.
Engage: I choose to engage in the power of the Holy Spirit in being delivered from my enemies.
Relationship: I choose to live in holy, intimate, obedient relationship with God.
Prayer: Father, I look to You in those moments when fear of giants invades my mind and heart. I ask You to silence the voice of the enemy as an intimidator. I am an overcomer in the name of Yeshua Messiah. Amen.
Memory Verse: 1 Samuel 17: 37a “Then David said, “Adonai, who has delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” TLV
