Compelled

Prayer: Father, I love You. I love the wisdom of Your Word. Instruct me today from Your Word I pray. Amen.

Reading: Job 32 key: vs. 17-18
17 I too will answer my part;
    I too will declare what I know.
18 For I am full of words,
    and the spirit within me compels me;

Attention: If you were raised as a child in the church, you have heard the teaching of the younger respecting the older. Paul taught young Timothy the same principle (1 Timothy 5:1-2), but he also admonished him to “Let no one look down on your youthfulness, but become an example of the faithful in speech, in conduct, in love, in faithfulness and in purity.” Be respectful while recognizing the gifts of the spirit within you.

I find it interesting today that a messenger of God shows up in Chapter 32. His name is Elihu. I encourage you to look up his name’s meaning. I will give you a hint: In Hebrew, the root word for God is “El.” Of further interest is the name of his clan (family line), “Ram,” which means “high, exalted.” Terms which we also use for God.

The text does not claim that Elihu is an angel of God, but the meaning of his name and clan is not a coincidence, nor accidental. We will see in future chapters a direct conversation between Adonai and Job which is fascinating. You will not want to miss journaling the last ten chapters of Job.

My attention was directed to a declaration which Elihu makes in verse eighteen, “For I am full of words, and the spirit within me compels me.” No, the Holy Spirit had not yet been sent yet. The event of the giving of the Holy Spirit was intentionally given on a national Memorial Day, Pentecost, fifty days after Yeshua’s resurrection. Again, this was an intentional sending which Jesus prophesied before His death (John 14:16-17).”

Does this mean that Elihu was not guided by the Spirit of God? No. The Spirit has co-existed with God since the beginning (Genesis 1:2). We have the benefit of living in a time in which God is releasing His Spirit. Acts 2:17-21 is one of my favorite passages about the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in the last days claiming, “I will pour out My Ruach on all flesh.”

We are in those times. May we like Elihu feel compelled to declare what we know by the Spirit of God.

Action: I will declare what I know about God to those who surround me.

Yield: I surrender my heart and mouth to declare the message of God.

Engage: I am engaged in declaring His praise!

Relationship: I am in relationship with the divine, ruler of the universe when I worship Him and pray to Him and honor Him with declaration of praise.

Prayer: Father, may the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to You today! Amen.

Memory Verse: Acts 2:17-21
17 ‘And it shall be in the last days,’ says God,
    ‘that I will pour out My Ruach on all flesh.
Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
    your young men shall see visions,
    and your old men shall dream dreams.
18 Even on My slaves, male and female,
    I will pour out My Ruach in those days,
    and they shall prophesy.
19 And I will give wonders in the sky above
    and signs on the earth beneath—
    blood, and fire, and smoky vapor.
20 The sun shall be turned to darkness
    and the moon to blood
    before the great and glorious Day of Adonai comes.
21 And it shall be that everyone who calls
    on the name of Adonai shall be saved.’
