Prayer: Father, the life of a prophet like Ezekiel seems to be a tough life, especially when the prophetic word is downfall and doom. May my confidence be appropriately placed on You. Amen.
Reading: Ezekiel 27 key: vs. 27 “Your riches, your wares, your merchandise, your sailors, your pilots, your caulkers, the traders of your merchandise, all your men of war that are in you, with all your company in your midst will fall into the heart of the seas on the day of your downfall.” TLV
Attention: The United States has experienced two financial collapses. The first was in 1906, followed by what has been characterized as The Great Depression in 1929. So severe was the collapse of Wallstreet that men took their lives.
The news to Tyre from God through Ezekiel is to create a lament over the loss of economy. So prideful was the king of Tyre over the trade with the world, that God was causing the economy to fall flat, total devastation. The nations who had traded in good faith, were left devastated without a source of exchange. All their trust was placed in the economy, rather than Adonai. A domino effect would take place and other economies would collapse.
Adonai (God) gave His solution to Jeremiah when He said, “Thus says Adonai: “Let not the wise boast in his wisdom nor the mighty boast in his might nor the rich glory in his riches. But let one who boasts boast in this: that he understands and knows Me. For I am Adonai who exercises lovingkindness, justice and righteousness on earth. For in these things I delight.” It is a declaration of Adonai (Jeremiah 9:22-23).”
If you today are guilty of misplacing your confidence and trust in our economy, I encourage you to repent and confess your newly placed confidence in Adonai.
Action: I choose today and for the future, to place my trust in Adonai and to pursue knowing Him.
Yield: I choose to submit to the supremacy of Adonai.
Engage: I choose to engage with Adonai in the power of the Holy Spirit, to declare His praise.
Relationship: I choose to live for Adonai in the power of His Holy Spirit.
Prayer: Father, how misplaced the confidence of Tyre was in the superficiality of things. May we see how temporal the things of this world are and place our trust in the One who is eternal. Amen.
Memory Verse: Jeremiah 9:22-23 “Thus says Adonai: “Let not the wise boast in his wisdom nor the mighty boast in his might nor the rich glory in his riches. But let one who boasts boast in this: that he understands and knows Me. For I am Adonai who exercises lovingkindness, justice and righteousness on earth. For in these things I delight.” It is a declaration of Adonai.” TLV
