Desolation of Babylon

Prayer: Father, may I learn from the lessons of history. You are supreme, above all gods. Amen.

Reading: Isaiah 13 key: vs. 19-20 “So Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of Chaldean pride, will be just as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah. It will never be inhabited, nor will it be dwelt in from generation to generation, nor will an Arab pitch a tent there, nor will shepherds let flocks lie there.”

Attention: A quick search on the internet reveals that ancient Babylon was located about 55 miles from Baghdad and a few miles from the modern city of Hilla (or al-Hilla). All that remains is the ruins of a once thriving city, the capital of Mesopotamia and home of the Tower of Babel.

So, where were Sodom and Gomorrah located? They were in the southern region of Canaan, south of Al-Lisan, under or adjacent to the shallow waters of the Dead Sea.

I mention locations of both Babylon, and Sodom and Gomorrah to establish and confirm what God (Adonai) determined at their destruction, “It will never be inhabited.”

According to an online article published by (Where Was Babylon and Does It Still Exist? | HowStuffWorks), Saddam Hussein tried to revive the city of Babylon in the 1970’s but was unsuccessful. Man can attempt to overturn the declarations of God but will only experience frustration and defeat. What God has declared will be fulfilled.

God shows His supremacy by not only using a nation as His means of judgment as He did against Judah, but then ultimately humbling the very same nation and declaring it will never be rebuilt. Such was the end of Babylon.

Are we going to listen to God about the eventual end of the world? The eventual judgment of all men is heralded in the book of Revelation. Not understanding the book of Revelation does not determine or disqualify the eventuality of God’s revelation to all men.

I encourage you to take heed. God has given us an abundance of the evidence of His Supremacy and ample warning of His judgment.

Action: I choose to listen to the wisdom and prophetic warning of the pending judgment of God.

Yield: I choose to yield to the veracity of scriptures.

Engage: I choose to engage with the warning of scripture and live for and with God.

Relationship: I choose to live in intimate relationship with God.

Prayer: Father, thank You for the wisdom of scripture and the warnings You provide about the eventual judgement of all mankind. I choose to take heed and live for and with You. Amen.

Memory Verse: Isaiah 13:11 “I will punish the world for evil, and the wicked for their iniquity. I will put an end to the arrogance of the proud and abase the insolence of tyrants.” TLV
