Do Not Add or Take Away

Prayer: Father, Your commands are not to be taken lightly, nor are they to be embellished or edited to our liking. May I heed the warning of Your Word today. Amen.

Reading: Deuteronomy 13 key: vs. 1
“Whatever I command you, you must take care to do—you are not to add to it or take away from it.

Attention: Did you know that one word added or missing, changes the whole meaning or context to a sentence or thought? I’ll offer for example Psalm 53: 1 “There is no God.” This is a direct quote from a portion of Psalm 53:1. If we do not read the entire verse, we could falsely represent the bible and the psalmist David of saying, “There is not God.” In fact, what David declares is this, “The fool says in his heart: There is no God.”

Adonai warns us against adding or taking away from His Word and commandments in both the Old and New Testament. In Revelation 22: 18b-19, “If anyone adds to them (the words of the prophecy of this book the scriptures), God shall add to him the plagues that are written in this book; and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his share in the Tree of Life and the Holy City, which are written in this book.” Tlv.

The warning is severe, the consequences grave. You are written out of the book of life. Eternity with Yeshua is forfeited.

Is disobedience worth the cost?

The writer of Hebrews says, “For if we keep on sinning willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but only a terrifying expectation of the judgement and a fury of fire about to devour the enemies of God. Anyone who rejected the Torah of Moses dies without compassion on the word of two or three witnesses. How much more severe do you think the punishment will be for the one who has trampled Ben-Elohim underfoot, and has regarded as unholy the blood of the covenant by which he was made holy, and has insulted the Spirit of grace? For we know the One who said, ‘Vengeance is Mine; I will repay,’ and again, ‘Adonai will judge His people. It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God (Hebrews 10: 26-31).”

For those who continue to share the narrative that God is only compassionate and do not share the full character of God, we do a disservice to those who will one day like us, “bow our knee” at the name of Yeshua…and “profess that Yeshua the Messiah is Lord (Philippians 2:10-11).”

Action: I choose to listen and obey the commandments of Adonai.

Yield: I choose to yield to the sovereignty of Adonai.

Engage: I choose to engage with Adonai in following His commandments (mitzvot).

Relationship: I choose to be in full obedient relationship with King Ben-Elohim.

Prayer: Father, there is no latitude when it comes to Your commandments and full-on obedience. Once we know, we are responsible for the consequences of our sin. It is a fearful thing to fall into Your hands if we continue in sin. Amen.

Memory Verse: Philippians 2: 10-11
10 that at the name of Yeshua every knee should bow,
in heaven and on the earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue profess that Yeshua the Messiah is Lord—
to the glory of God the Father.
