Prayer: Father, I would not know if it wasn’t for your Word. You tell me more than I realize if I will only read and listen. Amen.
Read: Job 20 key: vs. 4-5
4 Do you not know that it has been from old,
since mankind was put on earth,
5 that the triumph of the wicked is short
and the joy of the godless is but for a moment?
Attention: When asked once, “How much money is enough money?” John D. Rockefeller replied, “Just a little bit more.” He is attributed to have said, “I had no ambition to make a fortune; mere moneymaking has never been my goal. I had an ambition to build.” He was a very wealthy man. His wealth funded many philanthropic endeavors and from his family three of his grandsons served as Governor of New York and 41st Vice-President, Governor of Arkansas, and another as a senator from West Virginia.
I cannot say that he was wicked or godless, but regardless, his days like all of ours are numbered by God. His days like ours are but for a moment. Some writers of scripture compare our life to grass or a vapor (Matthew 6:30; Psalms 103: 15-16; James 4:14; 1 Peter 1:24). All speak to the brevity of life.
We tend to think that those who are both wealthy and wicked, have an idyllic, easy life. Do not be deceived. The scriptures tell us their joy is but for a moment. It is short lived.
I encourage you to consider that eternity is in the balance and determined by what we choose here on earth. Do you seek the momentary, temporary pleasures of this world, or do you seek eternity? The apostle Paul speaks to us in his letter to the Corinthians, “For our trouble, light and momentary, is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, as we look not at what can be seen but at what cannot be seen. For what can be seen is temporary, but what cannot be see is eternal (2 Corinthians 4:17-18).” Did you catch that? Our choice of following Adonai is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond comparison! Eternity is so far beyond what we see and lust for on earth, which can be seen.
Live on purpose. Live with eternity in mind. The reward is great!
Action: I will live with eternity on my mind!
Yield: I am surrendered to Adonai when I keep eternity in focus.
Engaged: I am engaged in a lifestyle which is eternally focused.
Relationship: I am in full relationship when I choose eternity over the temporary.
Prayer: Father, I praise You for the wisdom and instruction I receive from Your Word every time I open it. I pray that many will become ardent students and devout followers. May we all who follow become worshippers in spirit and truth. Amen.
Memory Verse: Hebrews 12:1-2a
Therefore, since we have such a great cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also get rid of every weight and entangling sin. Let us run with endurance the race set before us, 2 focusing on Yeshua, the initiator and perfecter of faith.
