Prayer: Father, just as Jacob called his sons together, may I gather my family at the appointed time and confer a blessing on each of my children. Amen.
Reading: Genesis 49 key: vs. 1-2 & vs. 28
Jacob called his sons and said to them:
Gather together so that I can tell you
what will happen to you in the last days.
2 Be assembled and listen, sons of Jacob,
and listen to Israel your father.
28 These are the tribes of Israel, twelve in all, and this is what their father spoke to them. He blessed them, each one he blessed with a suitable blessing.
Attention: Families many times get together after the patriarch or matriarch has passed, to pay respect and memorialize a parent. It is also a time to witness the family cohesiveness. Nothing brings out the true family dynamics like the transfer of estate. If you haven’t viewed the movie, The Ultimate Gift, starring James Garner, I encourage you to consider watching. Red Stevens (Garner) is the family patriarch and before his passing, he videos his last will and testament to the individual family members. While the movie is entertaining, it brings home the importance of values and passing your values along to your grandchildren.
Jacob gathers his male prodigy together and blesses each one individually. He provides us with a powerful demonstration of the need for fathers to bless their children and speak prophetically into each of them.
Many of us hold on to father wounds. We did not receive the attention, affirmation, and fatherly love we so desperately needed. We suffer from the lack of fatherly models and mentors in our current relationships and the cycle continues.
Most of us have not experienced a father speaking into our lives. How powerful an impact would a father’s blessing and prophetic impartation be in your life? While we may not have received a blessing we longed for, may we establish a new heritage in our family line. Affirming, complimenting the individual characteristics of each child, and imparting a prophetic word of blessing to each.
Action: I choose today, blessing and affirming each of my children become a lifestyle of my mouth, thoughts and words.
Yield: I am yielded to the Spirit when I pass along blessing and words which ignite my wife and children.
Engage: I am engaged with the Spirit in being transformed into a blessing, affirming father/husband.
Relationship: I am in full relationship with Adonai, when I bless Him and others.
Prayer: Father, may the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight! Amen.
