Fear God

Prayer: Father, teach me today to have a proper fear of You. You are the King of all Kings. Amen.

Reading: Ecclesiastes 8 key: vs. 12-13 “Even though a sinner might commit a hundred crimes and prolong his days, yet I know that it will be well for those who fear God, for those who revere Him. But it will not go well with the wicked, and he will not lengthen his days like a shadow, because he does not fear God.” TLV

Attention: In the opening chapter of The Awe of God, author John Bevere makes this statement, “In a time when most regard fear as detrimental or damaging, to declare the fear of the Lord as a beneficial and prized virtue seems counterintuitive. However, based on the authority of Scripture, I assure you that when we embrace it, we will be empowered to remain on the path of life. Here we will experience true intimacy with God and life-altering benefits—one of the greatest of which is being transformed into the image of Jesus Christ (pg.7).”

Having a healthy and appropriate concept of the fear of God is beneficial for every follower of Yeshua. I recommend The Awe of God in helping us to develop a healthy concept of the fear of God.

I desire to finish well with the goal of dwelling eternally with God. I hope that you are of the same mind and heart. Here are some direct reflections of king David, “The Torah of Adonai is perfect, restoring the soul. The testimony of Adonai is trustworthy, making the simple wise. The precepts of Adonai are right, giving joy to the heart. The mitzvot of Adonai are pure, giving light to the eyes. The fear of Adonai is clean, enduring forever. The judgments of Adonai are true and altogether righteous. They are more desirable than gold, yes, more than much pure gold! They are sweeter than honey and drippings of the honeycomb. Moreover by them Your servant is warned. In keeping them there is great reward (Psalms 19:8-12).” The fear of Adonai is “clean.” I desire to be clean before God. According to David, the fear of God brings a clean heart, mind, and soul.

Action: I choose to value holy fear as a great treasure from God which results in “great reward.”

Yield: I choose to submit to the authority of the Holy Spirit and God’s word.

Engage: I choose to engage with the Holy Spirit in being transformed into Yeshua’s image.

Relationship: I choose to live in holy, intimate, obedient relationship with Adonai.

Prayer: Father, I ask that on this journey of discovering the fear of the Lord, I will come to know it, live by it, and delight in it. May I embrace the treasure which comes from You. I desire to live for You and finish well. Help me to fulfill my God given assignments. Amen. (adapted from John Bevere’s prayer page:7).

Memory Verse: Isaiah 33:6 “It will be your time of faithfulness, a wealth of salvation, wisdom and knowledge— the fear of Adonai is His treasure.” TLV
