Prayer: Father, may my praise be continual throughout the day! May my praise be a spontaneous outflowing from my heart. You deserve all the glory! Amen.
Reading: Psalm 149 key: vs. 1
1 Halleluyah! Sing to Adonai a new song,
His praise in the assembly of the kedoshim.
Attention: Personally, I cannot imagine praise and worship, apart from music. Music, whether in instrumental form or vocal have always been an integral part of my worship experience. Music is found throughout the scriptures as early as the Song of Miriam found in Exodus 15 and heard in the singers listed in 1 Chronicles 9:33, 15:16-27, 2 Chronicles 5:12-13, 9:11 and multiple other passages. The angels praised Adonai for the birth of Yeshua in Luke 2. While the text doesn’t say that the angels sang their message, we have heard so many Christmas carols and Cantatas that we hear them singing in the text!
In both Matthew 26:30 and Mark 14:26, we find in that following the Lord’s supper, they sang a “Hallel,” sometimes translated a hymn or a song. In the Epistles, we find mention of encouraging one another by “speaking to one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making music in your heart to the Lord” (Ephesians 5:19), and “teaching and admonishing one another with all wisdom in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with gratitude in your hearts to God” (Colossians 3:16b).
One must be deaf and dumb, blind and mute, not to see and hear music throughout scripture. Even David was summoned by King Saul to play his harp for the purpose of calming and comforting him from the evil spirit which was tormenting him (1 Samuel 16:14-16). Do you ever feel comforted by spiritual music? Now you know why!
Action: I will praise Adonai for music, with music sung from the abundance of my heart!
Yield: When I sing or play worship music, my mind and heart is focused on Adonai.
Engaged: Music engages my heart, mind, and soul.
Relationship: Music which leads me to worship and praise, is central to my relationship with God.
Prayer: Father, how glorious is Your name in all the earth! Amen.
Memory Verse: Psalm 40:4
4 He put a new song in my mouth—
a hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear,
and trust in Adonai.
