Prayer: Father, unless I read Your Word or hear the testimonies of saints past, how would I know of Your great works? I love to hear the stories of Your great works. Amen.
Read: Job 37 key: vs. 14-16
14 “Listen to this, Job:
stand and consider God’s wonders.
15 Do you know how God orders them,
and makes the lightning flash in His cloud?
16 Do you know the balancing of clouds,
the wonders of Him who has perfect knowledge?
Attention: I have seen a couple dramatic displays of Adonai’s might over the course of my 60+ years. The two that I remember most were thunderstorms. One in the Nevada/Arizona border, and another in Kansas, driving towards Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Never had I seen lightning light up the clouds like neon signs and flash laterally, horizontally from cloud to cloud as I did in Nevada/Arizona. It was awe inspiring, spectacular. The thunderstorm between Kansas and Oklahoma was further away and spanned miles of the horizon. It was not as dramatic, but the sheer volume of lightning strikes was unparalleled. For at least an hour while driving east towards the storm, we were treated to an unequaled lightning show. We could not hear the thunder like I did in the Nevada/Arizona storm because we were so far away, but the declaration by God was felt.
Elihu uses the illustration of the power and majesty of the electrical storms as a demonstration orchestrated by God. He asks Job if he understands and considers God’s wonders in the heavenlies. Just as he is expanding Job’s awareness of God’s involvement, he points out the intentionality of God’s demonstration.
Do you see God in the heavenly display of electrical storms, snow, hail, earthquakes, and rain? Elihu does!
I hope that you will gain a new perspective and understanding of God’s intervention and orchestration when you see these so-called natural phenomena occur.
Action: Because of the attention Elihu draws to God’s intervention, I will now see God in natural events.
Yield: I submit to God’s supremacy in the world and nature.
Engage: I engage with the Holy Spirit in seeing God’s hand in His handiwork.
Relationship: When I behold His glory and give Him praise, I am one with Him.
Prayer: Father, I stand in awe of You! Amen.
Memory Verse: Psalm 8:4-5
4 When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,
the moon and the stars, which You established—
5 what is man, that You are mindful of him?
And the son of man, that You care for him?
