He Had Done Good Things

Prayer: Father, Your servant is prepared to listen, observe, and learn from Your wisdom. Amen.

Reading: 2 Chronicles 24 key: vs. 15-16 “When Jehoiada reached a ripe old age, he died. He was 130 years old when he died. So he was buried in the city of David among the kings, because he had done good things in Israel and toward God and His House.” TLV

Attention: Imagine a priest, who is honored by being buried with the kings, of the line of David! Wow. His honoring is testimony to the things he did right in Israel (leading them back to relationship with Adonai) and His House.

Under the leadership of Azaiah, he received wicked counsel from his mother, he covenanted with the wicked king Ahab, and his brothers had “broken into the House of God, and had even used all the sacred things of the House of Adonai for the Baalim (vs.7).

It took a godly man of courage to stand up and stand against the evil of his generation.

If you are not familiar with the name Deitrich Bonhoeffer, I encourage you to read his book The Cost of Discipleship. He was a German Lutheran theologian and pastor who led the resistance against Hitler and was a key founding member of the Confessing Church. He was imprisoned for his outspokenness and killed weeks before the Allies prevailed.

Here is what Eric Metaxas has to say about Deitrich Bonhoeffer in his book about The Cost of Discipleship. “One of the most important theologians of the twentieth century illuminates the relationship between ourselves and the teachings of Jesus.

What can the call to discipleship, the adherence to the word of Jesus, mean today to the businessman, the soldier, the laborer, or the aristocrat? What did Jesus mean to say to us? What is his will for us today?”

We must resolve within ourselves, does the word of God, the teachings of Jesus, the examples of the apostles, and the power of the Holy Spirit, are they relevant to us today?

May we choose to embrace the authority of scripture and the sovereignty of God. For the word of God is a guide, the only guide for our lives.

Action: I choose to live for and follow The Messiah who died for me.

Yield: I choose to submit to the sovereignty of Adonai.

Engage: I choose to engage with the Holy Spirit in living a life of power.

Relationship: I choose to live in relationship with the sovereignty of God.

Prayer: Father, the world behind me, the cross before me. May I follow only You. Amen.

Memory Verse: Psalms 119:105 “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
