Prayer: Father, You inspire me with encouragement every day. Praise You for the personal interest You show to me. May everyone come to acknowledge Your love and personal interest for them and every man, woman, and child. You so loved us that You gave Your only begotten. That is the name of that tune, amen.
Reading: Psalm 144 key: vs. 1-2
1 Of David.
Blessed be Adonai my Rock—
who trains my hands for war,
my fingers for battle.
2 He is my lovingkindness, my fortress,
my strong tower, and my deliverer,
my shield, in whom I take refuge,
who subdues my people under me.
Attention: There is a story I heard a while back of a father walking in on his son who was sitting at a table, drawing a picture. The father inquired about what he was drawing. The son replied, “God.” The father said, “How can you draw a picture of God when no one knows what He looks like?” Without hesitation the little boy replied, “They will after I get through drawing Him!”
If you were asked to characterize God, what would you say? How would you describe Him? King David describes Adonai as, “my Rock, …my lovingkindness, my fortress, my strong tower, and my deliverer, my shield, in whom I take refuge.”
I have friends who were on the brink of death in the past year who I have been reaching out to about recording their testimony. I am anxious to find out who God has become to them thru their recovery. How are they going to describe Adonai?
As you journey with me over the next few years, I encourage you to watch and observe your transformation as you discover who God is to you. In addition to journaling, I have been known to write the day of my discovery of new passage alongside the verse. This documents for historical reference, the day you had an ah-ha moment. Our life experiences, our trials and labors tend to build and expand our reference of who God is. I encourage you to watch for a life verse too. This would be a verse which has specific deep meaning to you. My life verse is Acts 17:28b, “In Him I live, and move, and have by being,” what I call my very existence.
The more you discover about Adonai, the more you live and do life with God, the more your vocabulary expands about who He is to you. James tells us, “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you (James 4:8).” This is our decision. Do you want to be close to God? The first step is yours! He promises to draw near to us if we draw near to Him. It is up to you. Do you want a closer walk with God? Now you know what to do!
Action: I will draw closer to God through drawing closer to Him through the daily study of the Choose Life Journal.
Yield: I am willing to draw closer to God so that He will draw closer to me.
Engage: I understand that He will engage with me when I choose to engage with Him.
Relationship: I can choose to have relationship with God or not. The depth of relationship depends on me.
Prayer: Father, Your response is guaranteed and promised. If I draw near, You will draw near too. You reciprocate our response to you. Break down my rebellion, till I only want You. Amen.
Memory Verse: Jacob (James) 4:8
8 Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded!
