Psalms Overview: The Bible Project

Reading: Psalms 1 key: vs. 3
He will be like a planted tree over streams of water,
producing its fruit during its season.
Its leaf never droops—
but in all he does, he succeeds.

Attention: It is interesting to be journaling the Psalms during summer and fruit trees are bearing and yielding fruit. I just consumed a plum and an apricot this morning. The plum was so juicy and succulent. Both were of excellent quality.

Our key passage today says, when we delight in the Torah of Adonai and focus on it day and night, we will be like a “planted tree” located near a water source, a nutrient source, “producing its fruit during its season. Its leaf never droops because it is healthy.” When we are planted in the wisdom of the Torah, we are ensured success, “in all he does, he succeeds.”

Are you producing fruit? What kind of fruit are you producing? In Galatians 5: 22-23, the apostle Paul writes, “But the fruit of the Ruach (Spirit) is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control—against such things there is no law.” Why is there no law against these fruits? Can we ever over do, over give, too much love, or joy, or peace?

Can you imagine laws against these fruits and a law enforcement agent pulls you over for manifesting or demonstrating too much love, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control? No law exists because it is not possible to give too much of these fruits. No restrictions exist because it is not possible to over do any of the fruits. You are free to be as generous as you like.

I encourage you to stay planted in the Torah. Understand, the Torah is the Pentateuch, the first five books of the Bible. Adonai’s commandments or law is not limited to what Laws were given to Moses on Mount Sinai. The Torah is the entire Pentateuch. We do well to stay grounded in the wisdom and nutrients of the Word of God, The Torah. We will spend quality time in the Torah of God next year.

Action: I will stay grounded and planted in the Torah of Adonai.

Yield: I am surrendered to the Torah of God!

Engage: I am engaged when I seek God’s wisdom over my own.

Relationship: His wisdom and ways are above mine.

Prayer: Father, happiness is a byproduct of my delight in Your Word. May I stay planted in the Torah as my source of wisdom and nutrients to feed my soul. Amen.

Memory Verse: Jeremiah 17: 7-8
Blessed is the one who trusts in Adonai,
    whose confidence is in Adonai.
For he will be like a tree planted by the waters,
spreading out its roots by a stream.
It has no fear when heat comes,
but its leaves will be green.
It does not worry in a year of drought,
    nor depart from yielding fruit.
