Holy Anointing Oil

Prayer: Father, what is holy as declared by You is holy, holy unto You. May we embrace what is holy to You and avoid that which is unholy or profanes what You declare holy.

Reading: Exodus 30 key: vs. 30-33
30 “You are to anoint Aaron and his sons and consecrate them, so that they may minister to Me as kohanim31 Speak to Bnei-Yisrael saying, ‘This is to be a holy anointing oil to Me throughout your generations. 32 It must not be poured on human flesh, nor are you to make any like it, with its formula. It is holy and it must be holy to you. 33 Whoever mixes any like it, or whoever puts any of it on anyone unauthorized, will be cut off from his people.’”

Attention: Directions or commands from a holy, sovereign God are to be followed and obeyed. God gave exact measurements and ingredients for His holy oil. He gave specific application. It was to be used to anoint and consecrate Aaron and his sons, the priests of the Hebrew nation. This was not a one-time thing or one off as is said today. His command was for the prescribed oil to be to “Me throughout your generations.” It was perpetual in nature.

Does the command apply to the Hebrew nation today? God says of Himself, His covenants and commandments are eternal (Genesis 17:13; Psalm 105:8; Ezekiel 16:60). In verse 31, He says to Moses, “Speak to Bnei-Ysrael saying, ‘This is to be a holy anointing oil to Me throughout your generations.” How can we even suggest or think His command is any less?

Did you notice the power of the anointing oil which was to be placed on Aaron and his sons? Verse 29b, “Whatever touches them will become holy.”

This reminds me of the Acts accounts where people were laid in the streets hoping that as Peter passed by, “his shadow might fall on some….and be healed (5:15-16), or Paul’s experiences of God doing “extraordinary miracles” through him, “so that even handkerchiefs and aprons that touched his skin were brought to the sick, and the diseases left them and the evil spirits went out of them” (19:11-12).

Oh, that we could come to the place in our lives that we were so Spirit-filled, anointed, consecrated, and sanctified, that the same could be said of us. That people were healed from the presence of the Holy Spirit within us.

Action: I will pursue the anointing of the Holy Spirit.

Yield: I yield my body, mind, and soul to the Holy Spirit’s use.

Engage: I will engage with the Holy Spirit in a daily lifestyle of time with the Word and Spirit.

Relationship: The longer I engage the Spirit through the Word of God, I am transformed for His use.

Prayer: Father, thank You for the anointing power of the Holy Spirit. When we yield, we can become useable for Your kingdom. Amen.

Memory Verse: Acts 19:11-12
11 God was doing extraordinary miracles by Paul’s hands, 12 so that even handkerchiefs and aprons that touched his skin were brought to the sick, and the diseases left them and the evil spirits went out of them.
